THE BAT MYTHOLOGY

Batman (Bruce Wayne) came about to exist because of witnessing his parents’ death. With the quest to find vengeance in his parents’ death the young Bruce Wayne trained for martial arts under the command of Ducard who repeatedly told Bruce that what happened the night of his parents’ murder was not his fault but rather his father’s. Bruce responded through getting angry and saying that his father did not have the training that he did have. Ducard responded by saying that training is nothing without the will to act (Zehr, 2012).
Batman appeared in the American pop culture as a representation showing that through discipline, determination and commitment one can be the best. This is evident as Batman is an ordinary human being who transforms himself into a superhero. Dennis O’Neil, a comic book writer, and editor, said that Batman is the most pragmatic of the great superheroes. He added that he is not even remotely super and did not gain his powers through a birth, lightning strike, bathing in chemicals or intervention of extraterrestrials but he gained them through sweat. Therefore, the conceptualization of work and process is epitomized in the Batman legend (Zehr, 2012).
Nowadays people prefer majoring into one specific area and become very good at it as opposed to the golden era of the comics where people were to find all means to survive. This is portrayed by the enormous skillset possessed by Batman. The legend is seen to be proficient in martial arts which usually involves punching, kicking, elbowing, and joint locking etcetera but also mentally where he is depicted as a smart, playboy billionaire.

The notion of being an all-rounded individual is rooted from the old army recruiting notion, “be all you can be” and it is in during World War I and II that the comic was written (Zehr, 2012).
