At the CIA, “Food is Life.” What does this mean to you?
The CIA’s “Food is Life” mantra is a clear indication of the institution’s dedication to culinary arts. To me, it means that the four different CIA campuses strive to provide exquisite services to their students. They understand the repercussions that may arise in the food industry due to poor culinary education. By saying that “Food is Life,” it is clear that the company is more focused on quality rather than quantity in the food business. The CIA understands the benefits of food in individuals’ daily lives. Therefore, it is their duty to fulfill this reality by disseminating culinary professionalism to different folk. The CIA’s mantra “Food is Life” also means that unlike certain careers, the culinary arts, and food-related businesses will always be marketable. People will also require production and provision of food hence it is a lasting industry. Pursuing culinary arts at the CIA will not only improve my chances of securing a prestigious job but, it will also ensure that I offer quality services to my customers. Their passion for food is directly transferred to their students through the exchange of educational material.
Describe a situation you have experienced where you faced challenges that required you to be persistent. What was the result of that experience?
When I was 17 years old, I had an altercation with my father because he refused to pay for an important high school trip.

According to him, the trip was irrelevant and was not required for my transcript. He insisted that the school was supposed to fund both the transport and accommodation if it was a mandatory procedure required by the school. I tried making him understand various reasons behind the school’s failure in offering financial support. In as much, as he did not want to understand my point of view, I did not stop informing him about the essentiality of the school trip in ensuring that I graduate successfully. He refused to pay my school trip completely, but I managed to find my way around the situation. My neighbor needed help in babysitting, and I offered to do it every day after school for four days. Within these 96 hours, I raised my money and paid for the school trip. My persistence was indeed the primary factor in achieving these results. If I was not determined to attend the trip, I could have missed out a life-changing opportunity.
CIA is training the next leaders in the food world. Tell us about your leadership experience in the classroom, work setting, or community. What qualities do you have that will make you a successful leader in this industry?
Today, each and every industry requires specific leadership skills. The CIA is among the numerous culinary institutions that require persistent leaders. Before deciding to apply for admission to the CIA, I dispensed my leadership skills in the classroom and community. I was appointed a class president for the better part of my time in high school. It was my duty to ensure that students followed the school rules to the letter. In addition to this, I was supposed to report any uncanny behavior that I observed among the students. I stood up to them and gained the confidence to embark on leading my community members. Most of the youth are not aware of their potential and capabilities thus, I have used my leadership prowess to assist them in the same. I learned that patience is an important leadership quality in the culinary arts industry. When leading and recruiting new staff, for instance, it is important to be patient and understand both their weaknesses and strengths. According to Sergiovanni, patience should be coupled up with tolerance so as to ascertain proper execution of tasks in the culinary industry (Sergiovanni 20). Luckily, I am tolerant of people; therefore, I will survive in the restaurant industry due to its diverse nature. Assertion and positivity are also important in running the culinary arts. These characteristics, according to my friends and family members, are naturally in me.
