Police officers by the virtue and nature

Introduction
Police officers by the virtue and nature of the functions they supposed to perform are mandated to use at particular times some force. For instance if the suspect is non-compliant to the officers request as required by the law, the police will have to use a relative amount of force to apprehend the suspect (Skolnick & Fyfe, 1993). On the hand, if the suspect is corporative as expected and directed by the police, the use of force will be unnecessary. The use of force should be implemented without discrimination based on gender, race or ethnicity.
Impacts of use of force in New York
Eric Gardner has been used more often when the use of force is mentioned about police brutality. He was not the only one to spark the formation of movements that advocate against police excessive use of force. The New York, civilian liberties union, was formed in 1951, to be an online activist movement for reporting and ensuring cases linking police excessive use of force are addressed with the legal justice they deserve (N.D, 2014). There was an establishment of a database system by the New York police department called the NYPD’s stop- and frisk database, to keep tracking records for police officers who have been caught with cases of use excessive, unreasonable force. For instance, between 2003 and 2013, the NYPD conducted over four million stop- and – frisk activities and over one million were recorded as police use of excessive force (N.D, 2014). From the statics from the database, it is evident that in every four stop, one of them police used force considering that none of them had a serious crime and had only been issued with a summon.

In the use of force, there is a disparity in terms of races. Blacks and Latinos are more likely to be approached with force compared to white New Yorkers. This shows that people of color are at risk of police using force against them. The outcome is that black and Latino civilians are more likely to react in a form of self-defense that leads to police using excessive force and at a time a civilian is shot by the police (N.D, 2014). The blacks and Latinos are stereotyped to be aggressive and violent, and so police expectation is a defilement of a peaceful police arrest and so prompts police to use force in the first instance.
How does it impact the community of New York City?
The New York community leaves with fear whenever they meet a police even when they are not on the wrong side of the law. The blacks and Latinos are not living in peace for they are automatic suspects in situations and are most likely experience police application of force. For this reason, they become violent and cause chaos in the city, affecting the police and the New York civilians. (Peters & Eure, 2015). The New York community is forced to waste time in peaceful demonstrations to protest against police excessive use of force. The demonstrations show the administration is not offering the New York community what they deserve or expect. It shows their rights and freedoms have been infringed. In this way, the civilians demonstrate that they don’t trust the police who are supposed to protect them (Ross, 2000). They feel insecure and are most likely not going to collaborate with the police to ensure their safety. The literary turn enemies with the police and if one gets a chance they are probably going to harm the police and escape. The New York community is spending money that could be used to promote education, for instance, in offering scholarships to maintain websites like The New York, civilian liberties union and others. The websites are used to spearhead activism to end police use of excessive force.

Solution to the problem
Police should be trained on the amount of force to apply if at all necessary and should consider age and gender among another aspect. Police cases of using force on underage have been frequent and need and urgent address. There has been an NYPD’s stop- and frisk database, but its content has not been given the required attention to ensuring that the police who use excessive force face punitive measures (Peters & Eure, 2015). The database should be considered to track on such police to ensure police take up their responsibility as recommended. Once the cases have been reported, they should be recorded to ensure they assist in prosecuting such officers. The New York police stations across the city should have a centralized system where they store and retrieve data and information concerning police use of excessive force.
In conclusion, the excessive use of force by police have attracted attention across America and require, and urgent solution lest the levels of crime and other insecurity issues get out of hand. Racial discrimination in the application of force is frequent, and police should be trained on how to deal with different races when they have to issue an arrest. Civilians should always report cases of police excessive use of force and should conduct a follow up on the cases to ensure the hand of justice give them their right.
