a. Purpose and Topic of Research
i. The topic of research is post-stroke recovery. A stroke is noted for being a leading cause of long-term disability in adults by affecting close to 800,000 people annually in the United States alone.
ii. Rehabilitation, which begins in the hospital, takes place as early as 48 hours after a stroke has occurred.
iii. Main idea: depending on the stroke’s severity, the typical options include inpatient therapy, sub-acute care, individualized therapy, home therapy, and long-term nursing at a local facility.

An article from the National Stroke Association emphasizes the fact that stroke affects patients in different ways. While some patients struggle to recovery over a significant period of time, others recover much faster. The literature details various conditions related to one’s cognition, physicality, and emotional state after a stroke has occurred. Furthermore, it offers suggestions as to how to proceed with relationships in work and life going forward.
