Endometriosis Patient InformationEndometriosis is a condition which has become popular among women in the current decade. It is a painful disorder which involves the tissues of the uterus called endometrium when they line outside the uterus instead of inside. The growth should be prevented because they can spread even beyond the pelvic region (Donnez et al. 2016). During the practicum, we worked with a female teenager who was diagnosed with endometriosis and was undergoing treatment. The symptoms that manifest included pain in the process of intercourse and painful periods. The patient was undergoing hormone therapy and pain medication such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to help her ease and relieve pain. Endometriosis can be dangerous and can cause infertility and should be treated sooner than later (Somigliana & Garcia-Velasco, 2015). Therefore, the client was also starting the procedures to conduct a surgery because of the stage of the disease. The patient would be required to be under medical observation for several months to follow up on the progress and prevent any infections.
Treatment Modalities
The most suitable approach to treating endometriosis involves a surgery or drug administration with the aim of relieving the symptoms or enhancing the patient’s fertility. Ovarian cysts, on the other hand, may not require treatment especially in cases where they do not present symptoms (Xie et al.

, 2018). However, cysts that pose the risk of cancer are removed surgically while ruptured one may need the administration of pain medications. Amenorrhea is best treated depending on their cause, individual goals, and patient’s health status. Cases of secondary amenorrhea are however treated through surgery such as uterine scarring, medications such as hormonal medication and estrogen replacement therapy, or both depending on patient requirement (Pereira & Brown, 2017). Differences in disease treatment modalities have implications when it comes to diagnosis and treatment. Such differences require that each disease is diagnosed using a technique that can facilitate the identification of the most suitable approach. Similarly, approaches to disease determine how a patient is treated.
