Introduction
In statistics, composite measure refers merely to compound measures of variables or a measurement that is based on several data items or variables (Babbie, Halley, Wagner III, & Zaino, 2018). IBM SPSS Statistics software is used to perform statistical analyses whose results can be viewed in both tables and graphics. Additionally, IBM SPSS Statistics can be used to manipulate data thus creating new data items that are mathematical functions of other data items. The two composite measures computed in “Chapter 8: Adventures In Social Research Data Analysis Using IBM SPSS Statistics” are Police Index and Police Force, which provide a distinct score constructed from a series of responses to some questions (Babbie et al., 2018).
Police Index
In this analysis, the Police Index is a composite measure that is calculated from counting cases for polabuse and polattak variables. The question under review is, “are there situations you can imagine in which you would approve of a policeman striking an adult male citizen?” The situations analyzed are that the adult male said a vulgar and obscene thing to the policeman, and was attacking the policeman with fists.

5% approved or gave yes to all two variables, and 11.1% disapproved or gave a no for all two variables. Most of the respondents, 79.4%, gave conditional approval where at least one variable received approval. Based on the results, only 9.5% approved a policeman attacking an adult male when the man said vulgar and obscene things and attacked the policeman with fists.
Police Force
In this analysis, the Police Force is a composite measure that was computed from counting cases for polabuse, polattak, polescap, and polmurdr variables. The question under review is, “are there situations you can imagine in which you would approve a policeman striking an adult male citizen?” The situations analyzed are that the adult male said a vulgar and obscene thing to the policeman, who was attacking the officer using fists, was trying to run away detainment, and was interrogated as a murder suspect by the officer.

Also, 18.9% gave conditional disapproval where only one variable approved, and 6% disapproved or gave no to all four variables. Based on the results, only 3.7% approved a policeman attacking a grown man when the man uses uncouth and offensive words, attacked the officer with fists, attempted to escape custody, and was interrogated as a murder suspect by the officer. A majority of the respondents, 59.5%, were indecisive whereas 6% disapproved the attack on the adult male regardless of the situation.
