INTRODUCTION
Psychology is a very important discipline in science which studies behavior and the mind. It is a large field made up of many sub-fields dealing with diverse areas like cognitive process, social behavior and human development, most of which affect the daily lives of all human beings. This essay will address three different topics in the field of psychology chosen from the chapters covered in the classroom.
TOPICS
The first topic, which comes from chapter one of the textbook, is on Behavior as a Biopsychosocial event. This approach suggests that human behavior can be viewed from three levels, namely social-cultural, psychological, and biological perspectives (Myers and Dewall). The viewpoints from all the levels shed insight into certain mental processes or behaviors. My understanding of this topic is that human behavior is not influenced by a single factor, say biological, but by the interaction of various factors, which are socio-cultural, psychological, and biological factors, which direct the mental processes of an individual leading to a particular behavior. I chose this topic mainly because human behavior is a crucial aspect human beings integrated fully with their daily lives as every action undertaken by individuals leads to the perception of a certain kind of behavior. By studying this topic, I learned that all aspects of life are important and must be put in harmony to facilitate sound mental processes to ensure that a person’s behavior is rational.

The second topic is from chapter 4 of the book and is about the social influences on human sexuality. Sexual intimacy is a big signifier or indicator of a person’s social nature. Also, sex from a casual hookup cannot match the levels of satisfaction that ensue from sex in a committed relationship. My understanding of this topic is that even though people hookup for sex all the time, they may not get the satisfaction they are looking for until they become intimate with a person towards whom they have strong. (Myers and Dewall). I chose this topic because sexuality has always been and will continue to be a sensitive topic that needs to be addressed as often and as elaborate as possible especially to the youth to help them make the right choices with regards to sex matters. This topic taught me that sex is a socially significant act, hence achieving an orgasm alone, which can be done by both women and men, cannot be as satisfying as achieving one with a loved one.
The third topic is derived from chapter 5 and is on sensory interactions. The brain assimilates inputs from different sensory channels which influences an individual’s judgments and cognitive preferences. Synesthesia, which is a condition produced when a certain sensation causes another one. This occurrence takes place when the brain circuits of two or more sensations join each other (Myers and Dewall). My understanding of this topic is that some senses, arise due to the presence of another, which is a very common but rarely noticed condition, for example where the smell of food contributes to its taste. The reason why I chose this topic is that it is a very interesting one and the fact that many people don’t tend to realize the creation of various sensations due to the presence of others. I have learned from this topic that some kinds of feelings may be mistaken for others, For example, by thinking that certain people like us without realizing that social warmth can emanate from the physical warmth in the environment and that social rejection can cause literal physical coldness.
CONCLUSION
Psychology, being a very important subject of the human life can lead to the comprehension of various aspects of mental processes and human behavior that control humans’ lives. Psychology can also help people to make the right decisions in different situations by understanding the reason behind various feelings or emotions, and think logically instead of reaching on decisions based on emotions. This can be particularly helpful when someone feels loved or wanted yet it is not the people but the environment that is causing that perception.
