Reasons for Choosing the Variable
Marital status is an essential issue in the field of psychology as it aims at understanding human relationships in the society. The family is the basic unit of the community, and it emerges after the marriage ceremony. Marriage partners, traditionally male and female, come together with the objective of offering emotional, social, material, romantic, and economic support to each other. Also, many couples desire to have and raise children in a family environment. The marital status informs the identity of a person in the community. For example, a wife who has just lost her husband due to death is known as a widow.
Correlation or Relationship
The independent and dependent variables have a stable relationship. On the one hand, the independent variable illustrates marital status.

The society has different matrimonial categories, and they are unique to each person. On the other hand, the dependent variables examine the distinct aspect of the marital status issue. For example, the married participants in the research are 900. However, the divorced participants are 317. The participants who have never married are 526 (GSS Data Explorer, 2012).
