Psychopathology
The general assertion that only the deeply depressed persons commit suicide is a fiction that is far from the reality. The fiction narration and its subsequent perpetuation originate from the belief that deep depression is an indicator of future suicide indicator. Though depression can lead to suicidal feelings, not everybody who commits suicide is depressed, and some suicidal individuals display great joy since they have resolved to solve all their problems by committing suicide. Besides, persons in great depression often even the energy to commit suicide. Deep depression alone cannot be used as an indicator of suicide since other significant diagnoses assist in predicting suicidal behavior. Such diagnoses include panic disorders, social fear, borderline personality disorder and antisocial behavior CITATION Lil10 l 1033 (Lilienfeld, Lynn, Ruscio, & Beyerstein, 2010). Deep depression may accompany the diagnoses, and the overlap may influence suicidal behavior.
The fiction has also been entrenched by poor research by the health professionals who apply selection bias to help in perpetuating this myth that links depression to suicide. A widely unapproved perception holds over 80 % of all suicide case ends up in suicide CITATION Sha13 l 1033 (Shahtahmasebi, 2013). The bias and statistical bias has helped in propagating the belief, but no studies exist to disapprove of the selection bias. Whereas most people will experience deep depression in their life, not every individual ends up committing suicide.

Wait! Psychopathology (online research) paper is just an example!

The mentality that only people with a mental problem can take their life further helps in propagating the fiction. Selection bias and inappropriate information have helped in furthering this fiction that only persons with deep depression commit suicide. The fiction should be tackled since it hampers with critical interventions necessary to deal with persons with a suicidal mentality.
