Recruiting and Retaining College Students at STLCC-Meramec
Introduction
The biggest challenge to colleges and universities has always remained in the recruitment and retention strategies to their students. Amidst the challenges, colleges have persisted in looking for new students to expand their population. One of such colleges confronted with the problem is STLCC-Meramec. The college needs to recruit new students, retain the students that they have, and to meet the needs of the various students in a better way. Therefore, this essay provides a suggestion to the Meramec community on the means through which students can be recruited and retained in the college.
Recruiting Students
The recruitment process needs to have a vision presented to the students. The biggest challenge with the recruitment of new students in the college is that new students are only given written notes with views of the institution but no explanation. Consequently, some students, even currently, cannot establish the understanding of the idea of the college. The community may not welcome the description of the vision to the new students, but the students need to be gathered during their orientation process then explain to them the mission that the college has in achieving their vision. This will provoke focus on the students.
Retaining the Students
Retaining the students requires the college to keep those who have been recruited happy even after they have been enrolled. This has always possed as a challenge to most institutions since they see the students as people who do not have rights as long as they have paid their fees. Therefore, the college needs to restructure the format of the emails in a way that is motivating to the students and keeping them happy.
Conclusion
Establishing and communicating the vision of the college to the students as well as keeping the students happy in the college will be the best way to keep the students at STLCC-Meramec College. The strategies need to be implemented by the head of management. The expected outcome is that there will be increased growth in the college population and no transfers away from the school will be encountered.
