Cellular Respiration That of Germination of Millet Seeds
introduction
Seeds grow, and it is for this reason that they carry out the process of respiration for the production of energy for the operation of growth and reproduction. Seeds are usually developed and in the stored food for the action of growth and development into plants (Jeanty,2010). A two-day experiment will help detect respiration and determine the amount of the process from millet seeds.
Methodology
The seeds were put in test tubes that contained calcium hydroxide used for the removal of any traces of carbon dioxide. The test tubes were then inverted and placed inside beakers with water. The seeds were held in position inside the test tubes using cotton plugs on both sides to ensure that they do not fall into the beaker with water. The goal is to show the process of respiration by the use up of the air inside the tubes.
Results
As the seeds were in position in the test tube and for some time, the level of water inside the pipes began to rise steadily. The calcium hydroxide played a critical role in removing carbon dioxide inside the tubes. The seeds respired and this involved an oxidation process where oxygen was used to break down sugar stored inside the seeds (Ayers, 2012). The source of oxygen is from the test tube, and it was used up, the water level on the test tuberose as an indication of the process of respiration. Measurements of on the test tubes can show the level of use of oxygen which also showed the different rates of respiration (Why Do Germinating Seeds Undergo Cell Respiration, 2018).
