Rick Perry- A Texas Politician
James Richard “Rick” Perry is the longest serving governor in the history of Texas. This Republican politician assumed his position of the governor of the state in December 2000, and has been succeeded by Greg Abbott in the month of January, 2015. Rick Perry was born on 4th of March, 1950, in a fifth-generation Texan family. He went to the Texas A&M University and graduated in 1972. He served the United States Air Force as a pilot from 1974 to 1977. His first step into politics begun in 1984, when for the first time, he was elected for the Texas House of Representatives from the district 64, as a Democrat. In 1989, Perry announced his change of decision to become Republican (Lou et al. 43).
Accomplishments
Perry is the fourth Texas governor to serve three terms (2002, 2006 and 2010), and he is also the second longest serving state governor in U.S. (14 years and 112 days) (Perry 27). In 2010, Rick Perry won the primary election for the position of the governor. In 2011, he announced his intentions for running for the President of the United States, as a Republican, but eventually suspended his campaign and endorsed the other Republican candidate Mitt Romeny. In 2013, he announced his plans to retire; but according to sources, Perry might again run as a presidential candidate in 2016.

Perry is an advocator of fiscal conservatism and he has focused on tort reform in healthcare.

He grew up under the Unite Methodist Church and stated in an interview in 2006, that he firmly believes in the inerrancy of the Bible. He is a supporter of the same-sex anti-sodomy law of Texas and has compared homosexuality with alcoholism in his book, On My Honor, published in 2008. He supports death penalty and is a strong believer of the anti -abortion law.
In 2014, Rick Perry, was accused on lawbreaking charges by a grand jury for abusing power.
