Abstract
According to Stewart and DeNisco, (2018), the role of the nurse practitioner was mainly developed for the provision of care for those that were underserved. This is a role that is said to have emerged in the 1960s. Even though the roles of the nurse practitioner have been on transition, the basic functions have been maintained. Those that were at the New York streets used to provide care for the immigrants by treating the most common illnesses as well as the emergencies that could not be referred to the main hospitals. This paper looks at the role that the Nurse practitioner plays in the world today in comparison to those roles that were played in the early 90s. Also, the transition between the practitioners and advanced nurses is analyzed according to the book. In addition to this, there is the summary of the main details presented in the book by Stewart on the change that has been realized through the time.

Introduction
Stewart and DeNisco, (2018) state that; the role of the nurse practitioner is to advance the medical profession of the new and graduate nurses. However, they were also supposed to give the medical attention to those in the rural areas and those in the underserved areas. The program was mainly implemented in Colorado at the beginning. The first recognizable program was known as the pediatric nurse practitioner program and was based on the nursing model that provided the advanced clinical programs (Stewart, and DeNisco, 2018).

The role of the nurse practitioner is complex, and no one knows the origin or the reasons for its invention; nonetheless, they have proved to be crucial throughout the time.
The purpose for the initial role of the NP and how it differs from the role of the NP in today’s healthcare system
According to Stewart, and DeNisco (2018), the early NP programs were meant to improve the professionalism of the nurses and gain experience in the field. However, because of the political, and social conditions, it was seen that it could be a cost-effective way of providing the health care services to those that could not afford them and those that were at the underserved areas. As a result, several government-funded programs helped in establishing the NP programs to address the shortage of the physicians at various places. The first state that adopted the Nursing program was in Idaho State. The state allowed the special nurse to conduct diagnosis and treatment at the hospitals.
Role Transition from RN to ANP
Transition programs allow the registered nurses (RN) to move to the level of the advanced nurse practitioner (ANP). These transition programs also involve several elements from RN to ANP. The main elements include direct patient’s care and a comprehensive responsibility. Through direct patient care, the nurses give the professional health care services to the patients. Also, the comprehensive responsibility involves the educational transition programs from RN to ANP. In my line of duty, I deal with the direct patient care elements. Through performing direct diagnosis, the transition programs are trying to equip me with the best comprehensive techniques.
Summary
In conclusion, the role of a nurse practitioner has become an important issue in the healthcare world today. Throughout the history, this role has changed from the mere practitioners who offered healthcare services to the underserved areas to people who perform complex diagnosis and treatments on the patients.
