Part of the founding principles of my school was to provide a safe and healthy learning environment. The school adhered to the policy and maintained a secure surrounding through fencing of borders and erecting a steady gate. There were security personnel patrolling the school. The practice enhanced learning by eliminating disruptions from fellow students and outsiders. There were no cases of drugs and unnecessary restrictions as to the access to vital facilities like toilets, gym, and swimming pool (Revell, 2004). The school passed a policy to prevent and reduce diet-related diseases like obesity and overweight. In that line, the school restricted the sale of junk food materials within the institution. The school also prevented the movements of learners outside the institution during school time and encouraged parents to refrain their kids from using junk foods. This focus on health environment helped in continuous learning because of reduced absenteeism due to health reasons.
Another founding principle was to maximize learning opportunities for students. Consistently, the school invested in various programs including computer and science laboratories, media room, sporting facilities like gym, and swimming pool among others. The investments and the design of the environment recognized the importance of play to the intellectual development of learners. The plan also appreciated the need for assisting facilities in research and knowledge enhancement among learners.
