The increasingly developing field of artificial intelligence has opened new possibilities. One of the major potentials for artificial intelligence, according to the United Nations, is the ability to transfer and distribute the world’s important resources like energy and food (United Nations, 2017). Rapid technological changes have further led to the design of human robotics with the mental and physical capabilities to tackle the needs of the ever-evolving labor market. However, a key question that pops up whenever we think about humanoids is their ability to replace nurses. Perhaps to fully unveil this question, there is need to understand the critical roles associated with the nursing profession (Marquis and Huston, 2009). Nurses are involved in the administration of hands-on care by observing and consequently recording patients’ history and medical records (Registered Nurse, 2018). As clinical practitioners, nurses also evaluate patients’ signs and symptoms and tailor treatment plans that address specific patients’ needs. Most importantly for nurses is the ability to work with fellow practitioners in advancing the continuity of care (American Nurse, 2017). It means, therefore, that the roles associated with the nursing profession require human capacities; including the ability to network with other practitioners, to interact with patients, and in the process maneuver through the complex clinical tasks.

Unfortunately, humanoids like robots, although they possess vital human traits, cannot entirely fit into an ever-changing and dynamic environment. The ever-changing nature of clinical care requires practitioners with knowledge, skills, and who are adaptive to changes and robotics fail to fit in this framework. It is important to note although humanoids, say like Sophia (Expovista, 2017), have managed to show critical competencies much sought after by employers, there is a gap between what the medical industry requires, and what robots provide.
