The film is an enthralling documentary regarding the peak of the black power movement in the US. The film is a tragicomedy of both fear and hope (Meyer, 2017). The black panthers were born during the 1960s, an era that was characterized by anxiety associated with the assassination of Kennedy. They were infuriated by racism, segregation, discrimination, and bullying tactics used by the police towards the black community. Likewise, revolutionary rhetoric from Africa, South-East Asia, and Cuba inspired them to fight for emancipation (Meyer, 2017). The film provides a robust recap of the rebirth of demonstrations against police cruelty and the civil rights movement in the US.
While the country focused racial relations on the South due to the stubborn pacifists’ protests, the national discourse took an astounding turn. During this period, the Black Panther party was founded in Oakland, Calif (Meyer, 2017). Primarily, the party was aimed at responding to persistent harassment of the African American society by the police. Its members took advantage of the then liberal state gun laws and fought intimidation with aggravation. It is critical to note that the party appeared as an armed para-militaristic unit. What is more, its still and vigilant presence had a frightening impact on local officers.
In their afros, shades, black turtlenecks, and leather jackets, the Panthers appeared terrifically cool besides making the black empowerment have the impression of fierceness, boldness, and radicalism.

The FBI chief pronounced the party as the single most significant risk to the safety of the US (Meyer, 2017). He engrained informants to propagate dissent in separate units by optimizing their rapid national expansion characterized by inadequate oversight and the lack of consistent vision. The Feds conducted illegal raids of Panther headquarters, which often resulted in shootouts that appeared like deliberate murder conspiracies. Before falling into paranoia and schism, the Black Panthers were a voice for outrage and black emancipation.
