World War II as ‘The Good War’
Essay Question 4
The Second World War has been labeled as ‘the good war,’ which is a name that does not describe any sought of conflict. Despite having recorded a lot of bloodshed during this time, the intentions of the war and the long-term impacts of the war could partially justify the name. It is a controversial name as it depends on the angle which one uses to analyse it. However, considering the intentions of the US, it can be said that the name fits it.
The United States entered the war with intentions of stopping the Nazis’ ill motives. They wanted to put to an end the spread of Nazism and its show of racial superiority in the world. America achieved their goal and, therefore, liberated the Death Camps in Europe, which was essential for the greater good of humanity (Pauwels 54). In the long run, the scheme of the so-called superior races was stopped, which also meant that democracy had become victorious.
The war also led to an economic recovery in some countries including the United States. The unemployment rate fell to about 7% during the war and as low as 4% in the post-war period (Pauwels 57). The increased demand for American exports emphasized the American economic prosperity after the war. The members of the army who returned from the war were able to join college and even bought homes with low mortgages.
The war can be regarded as a good war given the outcomes that immediately followed it. The loss of lives, however, cannot be ignored but considering the Nazis’ ill aims, it can be said that the greater good of the society was achieved.

Wait! The good War paper is just an example!

The racial superiority scheme which was being spread by the Nazis was stopped during the war. America was the primary beneficiary of the war with its economy, which had initially deteriorated, being revived.
