The howlers: bigger monkeys in the New World

Howl monkeys are a very particular species belonging to the New World. They can be found in the tropical areas of Central and South America. They are well appointed by their cacofonic screams. When several howlers release their lungs in concert, often to during the morning or at night, you can hear the rumble up to three miles away. The male monkeys have large throats and specialized vocal chambers in the form of a shell that help up the volume in their distinctive call. The noise sends a clear message to other monkeys: this territory is already occupied by a troop.

Characteristics of howlers

These vocal primates are the greatest of all the new world monkeys. Unlike the Old World Monkeys, howlers and other New World species have wide and lateral nostrils and do not have pads in the buttocks.

The howmers also have a very long presile tail that grows to the same size as their body. You can use this tail as an extra arm to grab or even hang on the branches. A grip tail is very useful for howlers because they rarely descend to the ground.

These creatures have beard, long and thick hair that can be black, brown or red. The red howling species is the most common. They have the ability to see all colors like humans. It is believed that there is a genetic difference here that explains this capacity.

They are large and have a body that moves very slowly. They do not have the speed and agility that characterizes most monkeys.

Wait! The Howlers: Bigger Monkeys In The New World paper is just an example!

Fruits, nuts, leaves and plants are the main sources of food for this monkeys.

How do these monkeys behave in your outdoor life?

Howlers can make a call strong enough to be heard at a great distance. They are able to move along the branches with the arms and legs as a resource.

They live in groups of approximately 10 to 15. They are socially active and use a variety of sounds to communicate with each other. There are 1 to 3 males per group and the rest are females and young.

Young males and females have to leave the groups when they are mature. The ties are very deep between these animals and rarely fight each other.

The destruction of the natural habitat of this kind of monkey is a huge factor that affects its survival. They are often sold as pets for thousands of dollars. However, these animals are not doing well in captivity. They tend to stop eating and their life expectancy from 15 to 20 years shorten.
