The Possible Success Of Engineers In The Political Field

Abstract
This is an augmentative paper whereby we discuss the possible success of engineers in the political field. It has been a common notion that engineers are professionally orientated which means that they have no say in political issues due to their poor argumentative knowledge. This notion is however, proved wrong by the Chinese president and prime minister who are both engineers and have made China a globally recognized economy. Having pushed China to being the second superpower in the world ahead of Britain and other European nations, the engineer president in China has proved that the engineering profession is key to success of the United States contrary to the popular belief that lawyers and academicians are best suited to handle politics.

Introduction
With the current trend in the world, it is evident that Engineers are the new world leaders who probably will take over the world shortly. China has taken the early lead by ensuring that most of its elected leader’s engineers. This has happened mainly because the Chinese president is an engineer and therefore he had to surround himself with likeminded individuals who in this case are engineers. This is opposed to the mentality in the United States whereby most of the politician are lawyers with the popular belief that lawyers are best suited to make better political decisions from the law point of view. This paper seeks to prove that engineers are practically skilled as opposed to lawyers who are only good with words and therefore electing an engineer to a political office will lead to the development of the nation as seen in China where both the President and the Prime Minister are engineers.

Our argument is based on the probability that engineers will one day take over the political leadership due to their extensive knowledge on problem-solving skills, better decision-making skills and good response to the will of the people. According to popular belief, engineers are thought to be technical people who don’t have leadership skills and should rather deal with technical issues in their field. The current breed of engineers, however, is very versatile, and they believe that they can do better in politics than lawyers and military generals. It should be noted that the American political and leadership positions are highly dominated by lawyers with engineers being the poorly represented group. The current president of United States, Barrack Obama is a lawyer and so is his vice president and former secretary of state. Key leadership positions are also held by lawyers including the solicitor-general and CIA director.
The American engineers are currently raising their voice they want recognition and representation in the political platform. This is a high concern about the prevalence of lawyers in the current regime. The recent meeting between US President Barrack Obama and China’s President Hu Jintao represented different ideologies since Obama is a lawyer and Jintao is an engineer. Engineers are good at building better infrastructure which leads to the development of the entire nation. As opposed to lawyers who are trained to haggle over words, engineers are more oriented to building infrastructure and keeping them intact. Evidently, that has been the major reason that has contributed to the recent success of China making it the second largest economy in the world. This success has been hugely influenced by the numerous industries that have been put up by the Chinese government which has put the Engineering elites in the United States to reconsider their political interest (Gispen, 550-574).
In this essay, the key points are the success of the Eastern nations after using engineers and other technical people as their politicians. According to Britain and the United States, politicians should be lawyers who at least can argue and haggle over words keeping the political temperatures low thus maintaining peace and stability in the nation. This notion is wrong according to most nations in the world including African nations whereby most leaders are military generals who took power after military coups. Such military generals surround themselves with their military friends, and most of their regimes are dictatorial and corrupt since they ensure that they remain in power by inflicting fear on their opponents and also the general public, (Economist,5).
Engineers can be good political leaders and can lead the nation forward as seen in China, but unfortunately, most democracies in the world prefer Lawyers and Academicians since they know how to woe for votes from the general public. Lawyers are known for their sweet and promising words during the campaigns, but unfortunately the same cannot be said about engineers since their argument and speeches are more professional than political. But we also note there are some Engineers who have been elected to political offices including the president of China but they are very few. The reputation of Chinese president is, however, changing how the public views engineers and probably shortly we will have an engineer in the oval office (Andreas, 17-20).
Conclusion
The world has learned that profession does not matter when it comes to leadership and any competent individual can deliver their campaign promises despite their profession. This has been proved by the track record of Chinese president who has led China to be a global economic giant and also the second largest economy after the United States. The current rate of development in China triggered by construction of industries and better infrastructure will put China at the top of Economic ladder ahead of America in near future unless the United States changes tact and adopts engineers in their political platform. Finally, it is evident that engineers get to learn different skillful arts which eventually contribute to their competence in political leadership. The competency of engineers and other technology inclined individuals can be enhanced by looking for leaders armed with two professions say engineers can learn another profession like education to help them haggle with words when it comes to campaigning and electioneering period and then they can apply their engineering knowledge when they get to the high office. This will ensure the leaders will not only be argumentatively skilled, but they will have the ability of practically apply their skills.
