Teachers and Guns
There has been an increase in cases of mass shooting in the United States in areas considered as gun free zones. The shot takes place in colleges, high school or even elementary school (Buck, 24). It is, therefore, necessary to act before another disaster strikes and arm teachers and members of staff. We need to have laws that allow people to carry concealed weapons in social places such as schools and entertainment joints.
Allowing teachers in school to carry a weapon is the best deterrence to the mass shooting (Buck, 25). If a prospective shooter knows that a dozen teachers have guns, they will avoid the school. Also, teachers are always in the compound and will thus make students feel secure. For instance, in sandy hook shooting, 20 kids were shot by a lone gunman. It would have been easy to subdue him if a couple of teachers had guns.
The law has failed in protecting us, and thus we need to defend ourselves. Since the sandy hook shooting, states have passed more than 200 gun-related laws. However, any attempt by the federal government to enact such laws fails. The regulations also face massive opposition from the national rifle association and conservative lawmakers (Buck, 27). We cannot, therefore, sit down waiting for rules while we suffer. We have to arm the people to save their lives. In the case of the girl who was rapped at the garage at gunpoint, it was possible to defend herself if she had a gun in school. She could, therefore, have saved the other two women who were later killed by the same rapist.

The police cannot be everywhere, and thus we need to arm teachers. It is not possible to have a law enforcer for each (Buck, 28). In other cases, police may not be aware of a crime happening like the rape case at the school garage a few yards from a police car. In other instances, the children are too young to carry a gun like in Sunday hook. The best option thus is to have teachers possess weapons to deal with shooting cases.
In conclusion, we come up with laws after every shooting incidence in the US. However, the rules do not prevent more shooting. The proactive measure is to arm the teachers and staff members. Arming teachers will reduce mass shooting because they are always in school and the shooter will fear a confrontation.
