The Thirdization of the Spanish Economy

The thirdization of the economy originated mainly due to the increase in the tertiary sector which is heterogeneous and deals with administering to society the services they require. This sector continues to increase and contributes more than 65% to GDP. Taking into account the above data we can observe that such growth is mainly due to an increase in the standard of living of citizens, which stands to develop greater consumption of services and requires that they are increasingly numerous and specialized. On the other hand, we must bear in mind that the increase in the sector can also be influenced by the incorporation of women into the work world, since it has resulted in domestic tasks or other tasks that are linked to the care of careThe children, who previously performed women, will be carried out by other people. And currently this is what is understood as work development both at home and in those of nurseries, laundries, etc. Also another cause would be the very strong development of trade, taking into account that it has grown at a much greater pace than production;This has generated has been that those in charge of the distribution that have achieved a greater economic weight and in turn increase their occupation. Finally we find that the development of some activities such as tourism, hospitality, trade and transportation among others are another of the causes.

As we had already said, the tertiary sector is characterized by being a heterogeneous sector, this means that it presents different forms of classification: first, we would have a basic classification where services are differentiated in two groups;In public services, where the State provides and citizens pay for them through their taxes;And on the other hand we have market services, which in this case are they provided to companies in exchange for money.

We need the two groups, taking into account that one with each other, since companies seek economic benefits, are usually efficient in the way of organizing the provision of services and are governed by criteria of competitiveness and productivity. While, secondly, we find the subsectors, which are classified as follows: first, we find the services to the company, which are usually oriented to advice, market studies, advertising and I+D;To save costs, to help them in their operation and improve their productive efficacy. Its development is a symptom of economic modernization. In second place;We find social services, which in this case are provided to people, although sometimes also to companies and are aimed at improving their well -being and security, therefore, we are talking about health, education and administrationspublic. Third, we find the distribution services that are those that allow among other things, the relationship between production and consumers;This is responsible for transport and communications, mail and commerce. And to end in fourth place we find consumer services, which consists of requesting the benefits that each citizen needs confidentially;It is the group that has a greater diversity, taking into account that it incorporates all the activities by which a person may be willing to pay;such as hospitality, restoration, repair, leisure and culture.

On the other hand, in Spain, although in all autonomous communities the tertiary sector predominates in employment and GDP, we can observe a territorial imbalance because the location of the services is influenced by factors that create differences between the territories saidfactors are: the volume of population, urbanization gado and levels of development and income. This is because the workforce in the tertiary sector exceeds 70% of the active population, taking into account that many services are not mechanized and there is a great account between them and the qualified and non -specialized workforce. As for the contribution of GDP services we find that communities exceed 65%, indicating a high economic development and a high standard of living;However, if we perform an analysis by autonomous communities we can see that the communities that are above the Spanish average are: Ceuta and Melilla with more than 89% of those employed, then we also find the two archipelagos with a 77,6 and 74.7%, there is also Madrid with 78.9%, and finally we would find ourselves with Andalusia that has 69.4%and secondly with Asturias that has 68.2%;These data are due to the fact that these communities have relatively scarce industrial development, although Asturias in their case drags a prolonged situation of industrial decline, and this provides the tertiary sector with greater importance., They also have a powerful tourism sector. And also Madrid, is a global metropolis with a very advanced economy, which results in a strong development of the tertiary. However, there are other communities whose contribution from the tertiary sector to GDP is lower because less qualified services predominate, such as trade, personal services, administrative and healthcare. All this is due to a little development of the other two sectors.

As for future trends, we find that they intend an increase, apart from quantitative growth, which is similar to other surrounding countries. On the other hand, they also seek qualitative improvement and diversification of services. And finally they also seek the increase in current imbalances;while the distribution of services will be increasingly conditioned by the unequal distribution that will be carried out with productive activities and income.
