Figure-Ground
An individual is unable to differentiate between the foreground and the background (Gillen, 2015) Household Management:
The impaired individual may not recognize the extent of activities that are required in performing of household chores such as cleaning that applies to the particular area. Looking for a white towel from a white background may, for instance, prove difficult for the people undertaking chores such as cleaning. An occupational intervention strategy may involve training the affected individual to be cognitively aware of the deficit and hence slowdown in the accomplishment of the tasks (Pendleton & Schultz-Krohn, 2017)
Depth Perception
Refers to the visual relationship that interprets the perceived depth and hence the ability to obtain a three-dimensional comprehension of a particular scene Meal Prep:
Pouring water into a vessel and accurately reaching for cooking equipment are some of the activities that can be affected by the impairment of the depth perception during meal preparation. The affected individuals may struggle with to pick up the instruments and may pour substances outside their intended containers (Gillen, 2015). Occupational therapy intervention may involve the use of written and verbal tasks by the therapists to identify the extent of impairment.
Spatial Relations
Refers to the act of processing the position of objects in space relative to other items Feeding:
Feeding is affected in case of impairment in the spatial relations when individuals cannot accurately pick food items using objects such as spoon and fork as well as impairing an accurate establishment of the location of food in the environment.
