The Death of King Arthur
Introduction
According to medieval histories, King Arthur was a legendary British ruler who led the defense of Britain against invasion by Saxon (Ashe 13). In some tales and poems, he is depicted as a great warrior who defended Britain against human and supernatural adversaries during the 5th and 6th centuries AD.
Mysterious death of King Arthur
The death of King Arthur remains mysterious up to date due to different accounts that try to explain his death and place of burial. One account states that King Arthur was rushed to the Isle of Avalon for healing and what transpired to Arthur after arriving there is unknown. Others assert that Arthur still is still laying in a cave until that day his country will be in need of him; while some say that he met his death at Avalon. Although some monks at Glastonbury are believed to have identified King Arthur’s grave (Ashe 33). This mystery is further complicated by the absence of any real evidence of Arthur’s grave or remains.
King Arthur’s bizarre death is an addition to the myth since it leaves everyone curious on what happened and whether his supernatural ability would make him evade death. This makes the whole story about him a mere folk tale rather than portraying him as a British historical figure. In addition, he is portrayed as a protector who wanders across Britain with his band of knights guarding the people of his nation.
In my opinion, King Arthur was a mythical figure in a British folk tale who is portrayed to possess supernatural ability and hence this ability would make him immortal.
