China’s One Belt One Road InitiativeChina’s One Belt One Road Initiative (OBOR) might be the most significant undertaking of the 21st century. This business venture focuses on transportation, energy, and infrastructure (Ma, 2018). The belt refers to the countries interlinked by the foundation, about 71 in total, while the road connects the countries and cuts across the seas to facilitate transportation. The nations in this venture represent almost a third of the universe’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP). China aims at linking countries across continents both physically and financially using the project. However, some world members still have doubts about the success or the motives of the OBOR venture.
Some states, like Britain, are skeptical about this venture arguing that the investment can only succeed if appropriately implemented. Other observers report that this undertaking might be a way for China to make exclusive deals with some countries which is a violation of the European Union (EU) principles (Ma, 2018). Another issue that many experts raise about the OBOR undertaking is that many nations still have poor infrastructure despite borrowing large funds from the Chinese government (Ngai, Sneader, & Zecha, 2016).
For the nations to be able to take part in this initiative, a lot of funds and planning is required. Another factor that might lead to the failure of the OBOR venture is misappropriations of funds. According to Ngai, Sneader, and Zecha (2016), there is a high probability that most states might direct colossal amount of funds to some of the projects that and they collapse in the long run.

As a result, the failure in the implementation of some of the projects will eventually affect the funding of other ongoing plans. The parties involved also need to be transparent about the money they use and the returns from the funds. Such activity is unlikely to take place with the increasing rates of corruption in most targeted countries.
The OBOR venture might also have adverse effects on the nations that receive funding from China meant to improve their infrastructure. Kawashima (2018) argues that since China does not have a limit to the money it lends, countries may end up borrowing vast sums of money. Repaying the funds might be a problem thus putting China at a position to use the nations’ domestic resources as collateral for the loan.
Conclusively, the OBOR venture plays a crucial role in enhancing the world’s economy and promoting international relations. However, several analysts cite some limitations that indicate the likelihood of the project failing if not appropriately managed. If the nations involved mishandle the funds or make poor investments, the lucrative venture will undoubtedly collapse. Lastly, there are countries currently accepting huge loans from China that might be unable to pay it back in future.
