West Nile Virus
There are many infectious diseases which are caused by bacteria. For purposes of this essay, the focus is on a disease called West Nile Fever. It is a form of illness caused by West Nile Virus. West Nile Fever is a form of mosquito-borne contamination with typical symptoms of fever, tiredness, headaches, muscle pain, nausea, vomiting, rash and loss of appetite. The presentation of this disease and its pathogen can be illustrated in the form of a 3×5 index card as shown in the table below.
Control Strategies
There are three control strategies which are used to limit the spread of WNV. These includes treatment of the disease, preventing the disease, and interrupting its transmission. There are control strategies used in WNV, and these include mosquito control mechanisms which reduce their breeding populations. Such an approach ensures a decreased case of the mosquito bite. Through this form of control, there is an assurance of enhanced protection against dangers associated with the virus. All these have been explained in the table shown below:

Table: 3×5 index card for West Nile Fever
Disease Pathogen
West Nile Fever West Nile Virus (WNV)
Control strategies 1. Treat disease in the host (most effective)
11. Prevent the disease within the host
111. Interrupt transmission of disease (least effective)
This control can also be achieved through the elimination of breeding sites of the mosquito through the use of pesticides, aerial spraying and lethal ovitraps (using a device which is capable of attracting female mosquitos to kill them).

Wait! West Nile Virus paper is just an example!

Killing by larviciding is another most effective control strategy since it involves killing mosquito larvae way before they develop into biting adults.
Preventing the disease within the host is achieved through treatment. Treating disease in the host can be necessitated by preventing the occurrence of vector-borne diseases, avoiding mosquito bites, using insect repellent, wearing long sleeves and taking care during peak-biting hours.
Interrupting the transmission of the disease is achieved by aerial insecticide spraying as a method of interrupting the transmission of the virus.
The most useful approach for controlling WNV is the use of preventive strategies within the host, which involves preventing the occurrence of diseases by avoiding mosquito bites and using insect repellant. The most ineffective strategy for the control of the WNV is the use of treating diseases in the host by using lethal ovitraps which attract female mosquitos to kill them. The approach is ineffective since there is no complete elimination of mosquitoes from the surrounding areas.
