World War I defended freedom enjoyed by the U.S citizens. President Woodrow Wilson admitted that achieving that freedom and democracy was to wage war against Germany (123). Fighting Germany and its allies aimed at ending broken treaties against civilization, humanity, and collective decency. However, the resolve to defend freedom was dependent on the congressional approval of the president’s decision. The war was a fight against the aggression by Germany with blood and iron as opposed to speeches and parliamentary decrees (125). World War I cemented the pursuit of socialism to sustain freedom and democracy.
World War I and its aftermath restricted civil liberties in the U.S. The government focused on cracking down dissent by enacting Espionage Act of 1917 and Sedition Act of 1918 (Norton et al. 607). President Wilson’s administration used the court to forbid false statements. The essence of the laws was to curb potential military insubordination. Espionage Act enabled the administration to curtail the right of expression as a way of legitimizing the antagonism against Germany. According to Norton et al., Sedition Act was an extension of the Espionage Act that criminalized negative opinions against the government (608).
A defensive approach to attaining freedom during and after World War I targeted the American in general. President Wilson intended to establish a sustainable policy that would protect the sovereignty of the U.

S. The fight could reduce impoverishment caused by Germany and its allies (Johnson 124). The restriction of civil liberties targeted both progressives and conservatives, which focused on using Industrial Workers of the World to advance labor strikes. The groups were subject to punitive convictions due to dissent (Norton et al. 608). The deprivation of constitutional rights towards the Germany Americans reduced the occurrence of internal uprisings.
