Bates, J. “A STUDY OF INTERPERSONAL SKILLS TRAINING GROUPS WITH JUVENILE CORRECTIONAL OFFICERS.” Doctoral Thesis (2003). University of Georgia. This thesis is about a study done on the interpersonal skills regarding the correctional officers and the inmates in the juvenile correctionals. Bates says that the need for interpersonal relations among the correctional guards and the inmates is necessary for both to thrive. However, in an environment such as the one in correctionals, it is hard to have correct relations that do not end in violent outcomes. This can happen because of the training received by the officers. Officers receive a training based in an environment that maintains a heavy emphasis on coercion, control, and management.
This particular study is important because, despite not referring specifically to writing
skills needed when working in a correctional, it shows us that there is a trend regarding
the usage of tools in order to understand and be able to treat the juvenile inmates fairly.
Evans, P. “Analysing of Supervision Skills of Juvenile Justice Workers.” Criminology Research Grants (2012). Criminology Research Advisory Council.
This study speaks about the importance of supervision in juvenile correctionals.
Knowledge of education, and in training methods are often misused or misguided. In this case, the way to correctly assess and supervise the trainees, and correctional officers is key in order to inform the trainees in what it is to be a correctional officer.

The study finishes by saying that the only way to refine skills is to practice the nature of supervision.
Besides writing, another of the key points of being a correctional officer is being able to correctly supervise the inmates while assessing their conducts in order to see for any threats, and act accordingly.

Finn, P. “Addressing Correctional Officer Stress: Programs and Strategies.” National Institute of Justice (2000). Office of Justice Programs. Web. This report speaks about seven case studies of stress programs. They are all replicable and each officer should see which one to apply. The study goes on saying that being a correctional officer is a quite stressful job, and many correctionals do not have the tools to prevent or help the officers suffering from stress. These case studies provide enough material and rationale on how to cope with stress and provide assistance to fellow officers.
This study speaks about the importance of managing the stress in all the positions related to correctional facilities and guard duty. This is another point, which besides writing, can be used when assessing the importance of the writing skills. What we are trying to say is that stressed officers would not be able to correctly fill their reports despite having good writing skills.

In this paper, Rutter intends to assess the importance of the writing skills of the correctional officers training. Rutter considers that the best way to avoid confusion and misfiled reports is by teaching the prospective correctional officers the writing skills they will need in order to not to change the meaning of the reports. Also, teaching writing skills can help in boosting discursive thinking, and in a profession that is comprised mainly by paperwork, it is important.
We intend to base our paper in this study. It has been quite hard to find relevant information regarding the subject, but we consider that this is the only study that has been done on the particular. In that case we will be stepping into a completely new ground.

We consider it important because without knowing what the officers face in their tests, we would not be able to understand the requirements they need and in which parts they tend to fail. In that way, we would be able to address to their weaknesses and improve them.
