Analysis of Jean-Jacques Rousseau

 “The cultivation is straightened to plants;To men, education.”From the beginning of the history of humanity, education has been one of the most important aspects in people’s lives. That is why many great characters have used their energies and their time in favor of pedagogy.

One of those characters was Jean-Jacques Rousseau who despite being rather a political philosopher contributed greatly to his philosophical thoughts about the education of which we can benefit until today. That is why we will analyze Rousseau’s contributions as education and pedagogy, as well as this can help the improvement of education today

Rousseau disagree with the education of his time because until then children were educated as if they were adults in small. However, for Rousseau, children and adults should be differentiated in their learning, an aspect that is currently present and that allows a gradual learning of each child and adolescent. He also considered that childhood has ways of seeing, of thinking, of feeling that adolescence is its own. Teachers must take these differences into account, know and respect them.

Rousseau’s main postulates are:

That is why for Rousseau the first education must be negative;Do not teach the principles of virtue or truth, but preserve the child’s heart against error.

Rousseau emphasizes that the student should not be given a verbal lesson, he must allow the experience to be the teacher. This was something very contrary to the thought of his time in which it was common for the instructor to teach his students the knowledge that they need but they get it for themselves from the experience.

Reason and memory cannot develop one without the other. That is why Rousseau children are not able to judge, because they do not have true memory. Retain sounds, figures, sensations, rarely ideas.

As we have analyzed, Jean-Jacques Rousseau helped with a great contribution in pedagogy. I speak of the nature of a child until both children and adolescents should be educated depending on their abilities. He demonstrated his disagreement with the way of teaching his time and defended individual treatment despite being an inconceivable idea for the society of that time. His philosophical thoughts about education were very innovative, but not only that because he adjusted to the reality of the human being that is currently maintained.
