Many people still confuse the effects of snow; we may think that the heavier the snow, the lesser the car crashes. Conversely, according to meteorologist, havoc on roads are not only caused by heavy snowstorm but also a light accumulation of snow on the roads (Dixie Law Group). During winter, car accidents are more witnessed, and worsens with uncertain accumulations of snow that falls so quick. It follows that a quarter of the multi-car wrecks recorded from 2004 to 2013 were caused by weather conditions accordingly. Besides, fourteen percent of these crashes are on pavement, seventeen percent on snow, and thirteen percent were due to ice.
Moreover, according to Professor Walker Ashley, it is the lighter snow that is more hazardous. With a small amount of ice, a lot of accidents can be caused. This is because drivers underestimate the road conditions. And if snowfalls are light and short, the risks increases due to the untreated conditions of the roads. Consequently, drivers might not be aware of the slickness of the road and continue to drive at a normal speed which may lead to an accident.
Unfortunately, due to the people’s negligence, minor weather events are proved to be more dangerous than the major happenings. With a noticeable snow on roads, people might decide to stay home, but if it is a light dusting, individuals are unaware of the surrounding dangers and continue driving.
