The assumption theory Alperovitz talks about is that what people understand about the incident-the atomic diplomacy on Japan is not so true because they do not really know whether Truman mads the decision knowingly. It was perhaps a gesture to send some stern message to the Soviet Union and not meant to end the war.
The thesis of Alperovitz article narrows down to unfold more information that stands as evidence to what happened to Japan. It expounds on what people initially hold as facts about the war and the atomic bomb dropping (Arbinger, 1). Whatever many people keep as facts about the incident are not that satisfying. There is more that is revealed to give flesh to the skeletal statements answering the two issues of concern; determining whether there was any decision to use the bombs and the implications of the political-diplomatic considerations.
Instead of dropping the bomb, Alperovitz suggested an alternative way of approaching Japan. Invasion and isolation could do. It would be more civilized for Americans to invade Japanese islands although it was feared this would have serious cost implications (ABH, 1). Again, it would be difficult to negotiate with Japan and just overlook the loss of American soldiers something that was still so expensive with America (Siddiqui, 1).
The thesis of the article by Maddox is about the reason why it was so necessary for America to drop the bomb on Japanese land. The United States had obtained a go-ahead from the United Kingdom following the Quebec Agreement, and this was a mandate.

The use of atomic bombing and firebombing are two different aspects especially when one considers the effects of each. Firebombing has got lesser impacts when compared to atomic bombing. Nuclear bombs have massive destructions, therefore, no equivalence in the effects of their outcomes.
