Battelle is a tool that comprehensively assesses the developmental progress of infants and young children which was developed in 2004 by Jean Newborg which uses formats for hand scoring or scoring using computer software (Battelle, 2018). The tool is based upon five developmental goals which include adaptive (ADP), Cognitive (COG), Communication (COM), (Personal-Social (P-S) and Motor (MOT).
Each of the five domains has its associated subdomains, and they are as below.
Adaptive domain (ADP)-self-care (SC), and personal responsibility (PR) subdomain.
Personal Social (P-S)-adult interaction (AI), peer interaction (PI), self-concept and social role (SR) subdomains.
Communication (COM) domain-receptive communication (RC) and Expressive Communication (EC) subdomains.
Motor (MOT) domain-gross motor (GM), fine motor (FM) and perceptual motor (PM) subdomains.
Cognitive (COG) domain-attention and memory (AM), reasoning and academic skills (RA) and perception and concept (PC) subdomain.

Battelle is a tool that enables parents to track how their infants and small children are developing progressively. The tool was developed by a scientist named Jean Newborg in 2004 (Battelle, 2018). The Battelle tool is used to gauge newborn babies up to the age of 7 and eleven months. The examination takes about one hour and above depending on the development level of a child.
