Can Robots Take Over Nurse’s Jobs?
It is arguable that Artificial Intelligence (AI) would lead to the automation of several nurse roles. However, the question that one needs to ask is whether robots can perform some of the roles that nurses do, like offering emotional care and support to patients. Several scholars argue that even though some of the duties performed by nurses can be taken over by robots, nurses will still be needed in healthcare. As discussed by Mahdawi (2017), jobs that require building of close associations, such as nursing, are not at greatest risk of being overtaken by robotics. Rather, such jobs can only be redefined. Hamstra (2018) also maintains that robots would only help reduce cases of stress and burnouts among nurses by relieving them of some duties. He maintains that the drawbacks of robotic nursing outweigh its benefits, thereby confirming that nurses can never be entirely replaced through AI. This thought was further reiterated by Whyatt (2014) who maintained that robotics currently do not encroach into a nurse’s core duties, though they can be used to help nurses in some tasks.
Even though it is true that nurse roles can never be completely automated, the proliferation of robots in healthcare should worry nurses. Nurse practitioners need to come up with strategies through which they can prepare themselves for the unforeseen future. One way through which they can prevent job loss is by developing competitive skills, which will help them remain in demand.

Wait! Can robots take over nurse’s job paper is just an example!

As argued by Webster (2014), the world is moving from a low skilled to a highly skilled workforce, simply due to the advances in technology. For nurses to respond to this challenge, they would need further training on creative and social skills to be able to perform tasks that robots cannot be assigned to do, if they really want to compete fairly in the current workplace.
