Case Study of a Cardiovascular Disorder in Pediatric Patients: Congenital Heart Defect.

CC: The patient was brought in by the mother unconscious. She explained the child was under medication for fever and flu. The mother told the following symptoms to the doctor: rapid breathing, easily tiring and at times fainting.
Assessment and Test
The patient was first resuscitated after which the doctor went ahead to assess him to find out what was ailing the boy. The patient undertook a head-to-toe assessment to detect any heart problem. The doctor listened to the chest using a stethoscope, listened to the heartbeat rate, checked the pulse and realized the patient had an irregular heartbeat; strong pulse rate and some sounds came from the chest. The doctor also felt the right side of the abdomen to establish whether there the liver was enlarged by water retained in the body.
Chest X-rays revealed the structure of the heart wasn’t okay since was enlargement the heart, fluid in the lungs and between the heart and surrounding membranes. Blood tests were also carried out including complete blood count, genetic blood test to detect whether there were any abnormalities associated with a congenital heart defect (Shanthi, Puska, and Norrving). Therefore using the symptoms and laboratory test results, the doctor concluded on the patient having a congenital heart defect
Since the disorder wasn’t severe enough to interfere with the circulation of surgical blood treatment wasn’t undertaken at the moment.

The patient was administered with diuretics to lower the fluid levels, ACE inhibitors were used to help relax the blood vessels and facilitate easier pumping of blood, and the parent was advised to aid the child in controlling the blood pressure (Gandhi).
