Introduction
Lord of the Flies provides the characteristics of the various characters in the book. It describes the characters in terms of appearance, personality, and potential to leadership. In this book, both Piggy and Simon are referred to as outcasts in the story even though they show different roles when it comes to reflecting and distinguishing the worsening ethics of the boys and their posts with the main characters in the story, Ralph, and Jack, taking physical ability into considerations. The aim of this paper is to compare and also contrast the features of Piggy and Simon taking their personality, appearance and potential for leadership into considerations.
Both Piggy and Simon shows distinct qualities that were not liked by the boys as well as the way the other boys disregarded them with time. To the boys, Simon denotes recognition existing between good and evil; he also exemplifies the goodness and purity of humanity whereas Piggy represents intelligence and rationality among to the boys. Simon was also the magical believer who was able to understand things to a greater level than the other boys as expressed (William).
From the start of chapter one, Piggy seem to be unwelcomed when everything was not settled and unexplored; he first met Ralph who showed very little interest in him due to his physical ability. He is portrayed as fat, greasy figure and the highly unattractive person who is not active and sluggish in any undertakings.

Wait! Compare and contrast piggy and Simon. Lord of the flies paper is just an example!

The way he was sitting down showed that he is an old man who cannot do serious activities on the island as explained (William).
When it comes to maturity level and position, it’s somehow obvious to refer to Piggy as rational and sensible when it comes to suggesting ideas, for instance, talking about getting organized and through a meeting. Piggy was the intellect and represented common sense too.
Both Simon and Piggy died due to the confusion and violence that surpassed the boys while on the island. Both Simon and Piggy stood against the evil that was overtaking the boys in the Island. Simon met his death in chapter nine at the point when got in the middle of the boys who were dancing in a frenzy around fire “Kill the beast! Cut his throat! Spill his blood!” expressed (William). When the boys saw him, they fell on him with their mob mentality where they ended up killing him. Piggy met his death in chapter eleven when he was trying to put some sense in Jack’s and his henchmen’s brain. Even though Piggy’s death was deliberate, it still happened in a madness moment. “…Roger with a sense of delirious abandonment leaned all his weight on the lever.” As (William) explains. The violent beast in the boys took over their minds and hearts resulting in the demises of Piggy and Simon thus the demises of mystic enlightenment.
Conclusion
As Simon’s death was carried out in a hysteric situation compared to that of Piggy, making the death of Simon to be a sadder occurrence since Piggy’s death was kind of an accident that was never meant to happen. Piggy’s death is also explained faster after the death, compared to that of Simon that was explained in details by capturing both his personality and love for nature. The story went ahead to express that even nature loved Simon emphasizing that Simon is a more likable person in the whole story. Simon is perceived in this story as an angel while Piggy is seen just as a pest. The earth and moon acted as if they were missing and mourning Simon but then when Piggy passed on, the sea breathed in again a long slow sigh as it were glad he was gone. Every instance described Simon as a sweet, lovable person while Piggy as an annoying, horrible brat that cannot be missed by many.
