Conservatism in America
The American civilization, in the 1980s, was dominated by a seeming social and political conservatism. Ronald Reagan’s 1980 selection to the American presidency marked the peak of the American Conservatism of the twentieth century. The political agenda of the 1980s conservatism was determined to undo the liberal agreement that had conquered ever since the 1930s. Reagan and Reagan’s followers swore to annul the supposed welfare state and lessen the federal government’s size. The great revolution by Ronald Reagan and his political tacticians that he operated with was to sink the apparent historical disrespect for the ordinary individuals by conservatism (Agre np).
The distinction between the language used by Reagan and that of the fundamentalists who existed one or two decades before Reagan is most outstanding. The House of Intellect, authored by Jacques Barzun’s, for instance, impartially bristles with disrespect for democratic values, the concept being that the history of the present-day is the unstoppable destruction of upper-class civilization consensus (Agre np). The democratic values of the 1960s had characterized a practicable concept of conservatism—a theory that has long been gone. But the approach was not sufficient enough to clarify to the working class the reasons why they shared a common side with gays and hippies.
