Densidation of the density of a sodium chloride solution (NaCl)

To be able to carry out an experiment effectively it is important to know some concepts that facilitate the understanding and process of the same. First, to be able to carry out an experiment correctly, it is necessary to know the equipment that is used to carry out the relevant measurements. As part of the equipment used in a laboratory, volumetric equipment is used. A volumetric team is a equipment that is made to measure volumes. Each volumetric team has a capacity that is defined as the space that has something to contain something else. Among the most relevant volumetric teams in this experiment you can find the pipette, burette, specimen and laboratory vessel.

  • Pipette is usually used to make small amounts of volume since their measurement capabilities are not very large. It is used to download a specific volume amount so the pipette used in this experiment contains a single measurement mark according to its capacity.
  • The burette unlike a pipette has the ability to download different amounts of volumes as necessary and according to its capacity it is allowed. It contains different measures brands and a visible measurement scale. In addition, it has a key by which the amount of volume that is downloaded is controlled manually. Its capacity fluctuates from five milliliters to one hundred milliliters.
  • The specimen is useful to measure volumes just like containing them. Like the burette, the specimen has a visible measurement scale that allows variable measurements.

Wait! Densidation Of The Density Of A Sodium Chloride Solution (Nacl) paper is just an example!

  • The laboratory vessel also has a visible measurement scale. Is mostly used to form, move and contain solutions. It is even used as a container to weigh some substance in a balance.

One way to ensure that these volumetric equipment discharges the amount they show contain and knowing which of them does it better, a process called calibration is used. This process compares the amount of volume established by the instrument and the amount that truly discharges, taking into account other factors that may influence the extent. When carrying out this procedure with each of the volumetric equipment, it can be established, comparing the precision and accuracy of each one, which equipment is better to be used. When a measure is made, it is important that it be done with certainty so that in this way the results are reliable and reproducible. Whenever a equipment is used to measure something, the accuracy and precision of it are taken into account. The accuracy is how close is a value obtained from an established value. The precision for its part is defined as close to each other a certain amount of measures made with the same team. With the pressure another concept known as uncertainty is introduced. Uncertainty is the error magnitude found in a series of data or in a measurement equipment.

Most of the time, the uncertainty of a measurement team is already established by its manufacturer and the equipment contains it somewhere. It is important to take this into account by always having an error space in all measures. Also, uncertainty dictates the number of significant figures in the results of a measure. The significant figures are all certain figures and the first uncertain of an amount or measure calculated.d This is taken into account when writing the results to have more concrete values.

All the aforementioned teams measure the volume. The volume measures the magnitude of the space that occupies, in this case, a liquid. To indirectly find the volume of a liquid, the density formula found in the calculations of this report is used. Density is the measure of matter found in a volume. The density does not depend on the amount of matter. On the other hand, the amount of matter that contains a substance or an object is known as the mass. Therefore, the mass does depend on the amount of matter. These components are properties that we can measure or calculate from a series of things, including a solution.

To be able to know what a solution is to first know what a mixture is. A mixture consists of the union of two or more elements. The mixtures can be divided into two categories: heterogeneous mixture and homogeneous mix. A heterogeneous mixture is a mixture in which the components of this can be visually differentiated. A homogeneous mixture is a mixture in which it is impossible to see or separate the components that form it, therefore, the mixture becomes a solution. The solutions have different divisions and among them is the aqueous solution. To make a solution aqueous, it must contain water and other substances that can be mixed homogeneously in it. In addition, a solution consists of a solute and a solvent. The solute is what is in lower quantity and the solvent is what is in greater quantity in a solution. In this experiment, the solute is sodium chloride (NaCl) and the solvent is distilled water.

Sodium chloride is an ionic compound formed by sodium and chloride. This compound also known as table salt is one of the main components of this experiment. One of the objectives of this experiment is the concentration of NaCl in the aqueous solution. The concentration is relationship between the amount of solute and solvent in a solution. Greater solute, greater concentration will have that solution. The concentration can be achieved using the equation of percent by mass found in the calculations section of this report. All the aforementioned processes and concepts are a key piece to carry out this experiment. Among the main ones are the calibration of volumetric equipment and the search for the concentration of a sodium chloride solution whose data is unknown.
