Which type of directing seems most interesting? And why?
Anti-realism directing is the most exciting type of directing as compared to the previous historical phases. As the latest phase in the evolution of directing, the approach is not limited to realism. Directors do not have to worry about recreating a naturalistic performance through a realistic portrayal of the storyline and characters. Instead, anti-realism delves on originality and creativity. Performance is therefore characterized by symbolism, lyricism, metaphors, and themes (“Chapter 6”). In the long run, this gives the director limited possibilities regarding how theatrical production can be staged.
What might be a high concept for Oedipus Res? Why do you think your concept will relate to audiences today?
Using the Korean Peninsula as the setting for Oedipus Rex is an excellent example of a high concept. North and South Korea have on numerous occasions been involved in feuds and disputes. South Korea can represent the city Thebes while North Korea exemplifies the city of Corinth. The audience in the contemporary world can relate the high concept. North Korea and South have had numerous scuffles due to differing political ideologies. The conflict between the city of Thebes and Corinth resembles the conflict between the two nations.
Why might you want to hire a dramaturg for a production of a new play? For the production of an existing play?
Dramaturgs serves as the link between the director and the text. A dramaturg hired during the production of a new play helps prepare and organize the production (“Chapter 6”).

The dramaturg can also help the director to decide the best approach of directing that they will use for a particular project. In the production of an existing play, the dramaturg evaluates the history of the play, reviews the rehearsal process and compares it with the ideas of the director. The dramaturg offers advice on the best production techniques depending on the type of the project.
Which part of rehearsals seems most important? And why?
Staging is one of the most critical stages in the rehearsal process. The performance stage should be modified to recreate a realistic scene. Staging entails the selection of the scene, designing, adaptation and modifications of the performance stage (“Chapter 6”). The actors have to be positioned in a specified posture at a given scene in the play. Actors use this moment as the last rehearsal stage in their final preparation.
