Disaster Management
A disaster is a sudden and natural accident or catastrophe that brings about the loss of life or damages. More often than not, there is always a causative agent behind the occurrence of a disaster. While these causes can be natural or human, most of them have to do with environmental changes. The causes bring about an environmental imbalance that in turn trigger nature to try and balance it off. The after-effect of the natural balancing has always been a change that affects human beings.
Back where I come from (Acre, Brazil), floods are very common. Neighboring countries in the Caribbean and South America have also experienced disasters with deforestation in Argentina, earthquakes in the Caribbean and drought generally in the western parts of South America. Flooding is common in Acre especially when the heavy rains come; increased water volume in the ocean due to global warming is also a major cause of flooding in the Caribbean. Farming has led people to cut down trees in forests to create space for pasturelands and farmlands in South America, a common practice in Brazil and Argentina. The earthquakes in the Caribbean have been due to the region being positioned in the “Ring of Fire.”
Most of these disasters have greatly affected human life. Earthquakes and floods have claimed the lives of more than half a million people in the Caribbean and Southern America and left more homeless. Hydro Electric Power generation on the Amazon has also reduced the quality of water downstream for agricultural purposes hence damaging the food security in the region (Benson).

Wait! Disasters paper is just an example!

Most of these disasters can be controlled, deforestation should be made illegal, and measures should be put in place to control floods. As for the earthquakes, the most affected areas should have precautionary measures on quality be put in place to reduce damages in the aftermath. Disaster information site disasterium.com notes that earthquakes and floods are generally on the rise.
