This refers to some different ways used as a means of resolving disputes between the warring parties. Dispute resolution, therefore, involves meeting some portion of each conflicting parties needs and more importantly by addressing their specific needs. The dispute resolution mechanisms include mediation, arbitration, the use of the collaborative law, through negotiation and litigation.
The purpose of dispute resolution.
The main purpose of a dispute resolution process is to provide the parties with a mechanism through which they can all participate in arriving at a solution. Moreover, the mechanism allows them to have a greater degree of control towards the resulting outcome of the dispute. It allows the parties to have flexibility in that they have rules which are more flexible than when the conflict is presented before the courts of law. Lastly, dispute resolution allows the parties especially corporates to avoid courts which are more expensive (“Dispute Resolution Processes,” 2016).
The effectiveness of dispute resolution
Dispute resolution mechanisms have led to easy access to justice. This is achieved through opening the door to both the rich and the poor to a system of equality something that the normal legal system has failed to achieve. As a result, disputes are solved harmoniously between parties.
Its effectiveness is achieved when it allows the solving of disputes in one sitting something which cannot be achieved in a single court setting that is full of paperwork and a lot of legal steps and formalities that always take a longer time.

Moreover, through dispute resolution, if one’s case has been solved and the parties reach an agreement, then the case is thrown off, unlike the normal courts where the case can be appealed after that thus more effective in that it leads to the satisfaction of both parties.
Dispute resolution allows any of the parties to withdraw a case against the other at any time. Thus this form of efficiency ensures that both parties leave the process harmoniously with no legal formalities required in it.
How dispute resolution achieves its purpose
Dispute resolution achieves its purpose through various processes depending on the form of dispute resolution mechanism being used. Through mediation, the conflicting parties employ the use of a mediator as the middleman who helps them reach an amicable solution hence he or she does not decide a dispute. Dispute resolution can also be achieved through arbitration where an arbitrator is appointed. He or she hears the cases from both parties and determines the case accordingly. Moreover, it can also be achieved through Neutral Evaluation. Here, a neutral evaluator listens to the arguments from both parties and eventually gives his advice on how the dispute can be settled. Lastly, it can be achieved through a settlement conference where a settlement officer is used by both parties to discuss the possible settlement between the parties (“ADR Types & Benefits – alternative_dispute_resolution”, 2016).
NC dispute resolution program
North Carolina has a dispute resolution commission that allows and authorizes the Alternative Dispute Resolution Program one which is the Mediated Settlement Conference Program. This is majorly in the Cumberland County. The program operates through the publication of a list of qualified attorney from Cumberland County to serve as arbitrators and mediators through the CCBA. The fees to be charged are agreed amongst t the qualified arbitrators and the mediators and authorized by the Cumberland County. Anyone who is interested in this process is required to contact the authorized persons only (Cumberland, 2016). The program allows those in a litigation lawsuit to end a court process and use the program to resolve any disputes between them.
