Explanation of Low GPA
During my first semester in school, I did not pay much attention at my classes to appreciate awesome education opportunities which I had. I was immature, unorganized and uncommitted young woman who failed to maintain academic standards required by the institution. I thought I could manage to work part-time and attend classes at the same time, but time management turned out to be a severe challenge. I had mixed priorities and focused more on social life like going to parties with friends. I believed college is just studying and I ignored my studying. When I first received terrible grades of D’s, I was depressed and stopped going to classes regularly, and that made the situation get worse. By the time I was seeking a guidance counselor, the withdraw date which could have saved me from receiving bad marks, had passed.
After some time, however, I redefined my character and refused to accept the defeat of past failure. I double majored in biology and Spanish, participated in microbiology research which enabled me to attain high cumulative points with better grades A’s and B’s. My recent scores reveal a better reflection of my potential, proving ability to succeed in an academic setting. After participating in undergraduate research in microbiology, the work got published in a scientific journal, and I was accepted in Spanish society. I now understand how to manage time, the meaning of commitment and what it means to have a passion, that way I will succeed academically.
