Fight against youth unemployment

Unemployment remains one of the fundamental concerns throughout Europe, especially for young people, since without any doubt it is the most vulnerable youth collective and affected by unemployment rates due to the economic crisis that Europe is suffering in the last 10years.

Statistics as of March 2019 places Germany as European countries with the lowest youth unemployment rate with 5.3%, followed by the Netherlands with 6.6%. On the contrary, Spain is second in the ranking with the highest youth unemployment rate with 33.8% .

Germany Pespunta in key and fundamental strategies in taking measures to correct this problem, there is nothing more to see statistics. For this, they have focused on promoting changes in educational and academic training;as is the case with dual professional training (Dual FP), which means imparting this learning in two spaces: the company and school. To receive this training, students must request a job in a company. Therefore, they go through a selection and already with the job offer confirmed by the company enroll in the center that imparts that profession. At the end of the cycle, they go through a personal exam required by the Chamber of Commerce, so the company strives to teach them well and have good trainers, since if they suspend responsibility, it falls on the company. During this two or three years of learning students receive a salary from Al Redor of 700 euros, which is very motivating for young people when requesting this training.

Wait! Fight Against Youth Unemployment paper is just an example!

In this way they ensure that there are no uncovered positions, or more students in the centers. 70% of the students remain in the company with a employment contract once the practices have finished.

In the case of the Netherlands, the strategies raised to combat this problem are the following:

  • Keep young people as long as possible in school centers
  • Companies must increase the percentage of young people when covering existing job offers
  • Entrepreneurs are obliged to set new places for the young people who leave the studies
  • Subsidies for workshops and courses for the formation of young people

I consider that the German Dual Professional Training System is rising, since many countries are taking this training system as an example and are beginning to implement it. Access to the labor market in Spain is difficult, precarious conditions, garbage contracts, intense working days, low salaries and without continuity or stability safety are offered. The most precarious conditions are met in the youth sector. In these times there is much talk about the ‘ninis’ the situation of those who neither study nor work. There are many academically qualified and trained young people, and also the least formed who have had to resort to other countries in search of work. In my opinion, in Spain some of the strategies and resources that other countries in this important and vital problem should be taken as an example. One of the requirements demanded. I consider that it is an important key that makes youth unemployment so high in Spain. A few years ago young professional training students have opted for dual FP, although not in the same way as in Germany. In our country this training is chosen in the second year of the cycle and only for 2 or 3 of the students, and without the commitment to stay in the company.

In the case of the measure of the Netherlands to keep young people in schools, it does not seem like a solution to youth unemployment, obviously you will have less unemployed young people if there are no more positions at the end of the studies they will continue unemployed equally.
