The main purpose of this article is to examine the effects of violence on child’s community and whether it can alter classroom functioning and behavior of a child. Quantitative research method/design was used in this article. This research involves data in the form of numbers and statistics in which interview assessments were conducted as part of the randomized controlled trial design to measure the readiness of children at school in 18 head start sites in the preschool year fall and spring (Sharkey, Tirado-Strayer, Papachristos & Raver, 2012). Statistical data was used to make a comparison between the performance of the children when they had been involved in violence recently and when violence had not occurred recently. Statistical measurements were used to describe the difference between children scores when violence had occurred recently and when it had not occurred.
The most important information of this research is that exposure to violence either directly or indirectly can lead to adverse health consequences and symptoms of stress hence affecting the performance of children in school. However, children who have exposed to extreme community violence in the form of homicide experiences some abnormalities in behavior, attention, and impulse control while in a classroom setting. This portrays that, if local violence affects the children behavior and performance in class, it can be extended to into key domains of social life.

The results of this article are that children assessed within a week of local violence which had occurred near the premises, they experienced lower levels of impulse control, pre-academic skills, and attention. According to the analysis, local violence on parental distress affects young children. Therefore, this article concludes that psychological distress among caregivers is generated by exposure to homicide hence impairing self-regulatory behavior and cognitive functioning of children.
The main assumption of the author is that among students living within a specified area of homicide, the relative timing of killings and assessments is exogenous and this can be used to identify the casual homicide effects to all students on cognitive function and self-regulation. However, the author assumes that all the students are equal where else they had different thinking capabilities. Besides, the author assumed that the effects of homicide violence affected the poor and neglected researching the wealthy children.
One of the biases portrayed in the study is parental neglecting which can place children success in jeopardy at school (Sharkey, Tirado-Strayer, Papachristos & Raver, 2012). Many families do not observe the association between children and community violence outcomes hence they ended up migrating into communities with more violence. Traditional approaches were used to identify the effects of the violence on children performance. However, it is more efficient to exploit the variation in the timing of local homicide with assessment interviews.
This article implies that violence local violence is degrading the performance of children in a classroom setting because it affects their attention and behavior. Therefore, children should be provided with a conducive environment free from violence to succeed in their academics.
The article portrays evidence of bad ethics whereby homicides and violence are committed in community full of children. However, children who are used to this scenarios might be tempted to perform those evils in the future. The effects of local violence on children were examined to come up with effective strategies and show the community on the importance of dealing with violence for the benefit of their children.
Importance of socialization.
Mixing with the other people in the society and learning how to live acceptably is referred to as socialization. In the community described the article, socialization is very crucial since it will enable them to solve the violent crimes and homicides affecting them as a community. In fact, condemning the acts of violence in a society requires unity from all the members and this can only be achieved through socialization. Coming together will enable the community to identify the real causes of violence and local homicide hence coming up with preventive measures for the benefit of their children. In a society whereby people have decided to stay together and socialize with each other, it is possible for them to live per the law with minimal crimes. Furthermore, socialization enables all people in the society to differentiate between the principles of good and bad ethics because socialization enables people to discuss what issues are affecting them in the community. People can counter negative health consequences and psychobiological symptoms of distress by socializing with each other to share what they are experiencing.
Socialization among students, parents, and teachers is very significant in the community since it enables the student or pupil to maintain their performance in class. Since the community described in the article is full of violence and local homicide, the children leaving the society always face hard times while in school leading to poor performance. In fact, their thinking capabilities are affected by this local violence hence affecting their attention and behavior in the classroom setting. Socialization is the best way to ensure that children do not alter their behaviors in school and that they are living according to the principles of good ethics. Children can learn what is going on in their community through sharing ideas and mixing with one another. People of different ages and social classes should share ideas to prevent acts of violence and homicide, and that can be made possible via socialization.
