The author highlights the developmental history of Islam, paying close attention to the worship aspect of the religion. This author is keen to indicate that the geographical location of the inaugural Muslims was key to the advancement of their worshipping intent and that they often looked towards their neighbors for influence in establishing their religious tradition. This author is crucial as he gives us a better understanding of the importance of other religions of the time on Islamic worshipping rituals, particularly the Adhan.
Morrison, Adam. “Isaac Weiner: Religion Out Loud: Religious Sound, Public Space, and American Pluralism.” (2015): 319-320.
This author’s focus is on the contentious issues surrounding public order and more particularly, religious dissent. The author reiterates the proceedings of various contributors to a town council debate in the traditionally polish-catholic town of Hamtramck, Michigan. Here, issues of religion were at play with the majority Christian population arguing that the Adhan was an unnecessary yet gratuitous declaration of Muslim presence. This author interrogated the credibility of this claim in the face of a fighting Muslim population who claimed that the Adhan was an integral part of Islam. This book is of the great essence as the readers are made aware of other existing instances of perceived religious noise and the related justifications.

The focus of these authors was on the different linguistic elements of the Islamic prayer ritual of Adhan. These authors aim at establishing that indeed the Adhan is not a mere recital of words but a powerful rendition of a higher calling. These authors trace the journey of the Adhan while analyzing its text verbatim. The rationale behind the appeal of these utterances to Muhammad SAW is clearly explained and so is the place of the Adhan in a hierarchy of Islamic declarations. This text is crucial for an understanding of the Adhan as it affords readers an opportunity to attach meaning to the recital.
Tamimi Arab, Pooyan. Amplifying Islam: Pluralism, Secularism, and Religious Sounds in The Netherlands. Diss. University Utrecht, 2015.
This author interrogates the place of Islam in a multicultural world, especially away from the Arabian Peninsula. The works are against a backdrop of friction between adherents and non-adherents of the Islam, the former who believe that some Islamic rituals of worship are an intrusion and possible cause of nuisance. The author does a quintessential job of explaining the historical significance of Adhan and further explains its necessity to the religion of Islam and why tampering with Adhan is an outright assault against Islam. This work is of great importance as it enables a reader to understand why Adhan has such a cemented place in Islam.
