Introduction
Despite having experienced a difficult childhood in a single-parent family with limited resources, I have strived to make something of my life. In fact, I have received limited financial support from my father and have had to rely on my mother. This set of circumstances have occasioned my need for a scholarship to pursue a university education. Overall, I intend to apply the SMART system in the pursuit of my career as a marketer with an inclination towards arts, particularly design, creation and inspiration. SMART is an acronym for specific, measurable, attainable, realistic and time-bound, all concepts that make it possible to set achievable goals. In this paper, I will discuss my personal, academic, and goals goal, applying the SMART concept that I want to make as a student and in future after graduating with a marketing degree. This will also reflect on my philosophy of being the best that I can be in providing high-quality marketing services.
Personal goals
Applying the SMART system, my first personal goal is to excel academically by obtaining an average of 80% grade in all courses for the time that I will be attending the four-year marketing program in the university. In essence, as a student, I intend to obtain an 80% grade in all subjects, and excel in my academic performance, and complete my training on schedule. This will take commitment, personal dedication, and support from the professors, fellow students, and family members.

My second personal goal is to publish a minimum of three scholarly articles and two research papers on marketing before I graduate from my program. This will also require guidance from my professors, fellow students, and family members. My third personal goal is to acquire practical marketing knowledge and skills by being accepted into an internship program with a competent and reputable marketing firm at the end of my academic program. I will achieve this goal by excelling academically, volunteering for community service, and presenting an internship application letter to a suitable organization to shows my dedication to the marketing profession. Acceptance into the internship program will allow me to gain practical experiences even as I apply the knowledge and skills I assimilated in the education program. Also, acceptance into the internship will be instrumental in helping me prepare to take and pass professional proficiency examinations.
Academic goals
Even as I pursue my personal goals, it is important to acknowledge that they are not divorced from my academic goals. My first academic goal is to graduate from the four-year marketing program after having acquired the essential elements and characteristics that define a professional marketer. I intend for the knowledge and skills that I attain during the program to guide my professional practice, and not just as a way of passing exams and graduating with a good grade. My second academic goal is to graduate with the capacity to promote, prevent and protect the societies from marketing malpractices. To achieve this goal, I will read, research, and build my capacity for understanding the wholesome marketing needs. My academic experiences and personal skills will also come in handy as I seek to obtain fundamental marketing elements and characteristics. This would include teamwork with other business professions and applying interrelation skills. It is notable that this profession entails dealing with diverse marketing needs and different backgrounds.
Career goals
Other than my personal and academic goals, I also have career goals that I intend to achieve during the marketing program. My first career goal is to excel in the marketing profession by committing myself to a continuous learning process and upgrading my skills level even as I complete the current program. This goal is informed by my awareness that the marketing sector is very dynamic with new protocols, policies, and tools emerging frequently. As such, I will be committed to exploring and understanding the different dynamics and contemporary knowledge that affect the marketing profession by enrolling for advanced courses even as I practice after graduating from the university program. This will put me at a competitive advantage over other marketers; thus giving me a better chance to excel in this field. My second career goal is to gain an academic leadership position within the marketing academic field in the next ten years. This goal is informed by my awareness that marketing leadership comes about as a result of years of professional experience and extensive academic qualification. Also, such a position is necessary since it can influence policies and change structures that hinder effective marketing practice. To facilitate the achievement of this goal, I will actively advance my academic credentials to the post-graduate level and regularly publish informative academic papers that increase my prominence within the marketing field to facilitate my consideration in a leadership position. Overall, I want to grow academically and leave a mark in the marketing profession by making a difference.
Conclusion
In conclusion, I must acknowledge that applying the SMART system has allowed me to eloquently present and contextualize my personal, academic and career goals that are divorced from the difficulties I face at home. At the personal level, I want to achieve good grades, and work on research, and pass the marketing professional proficiency examinations. At the academic level, I want to seek and work towards acquiring a marketing leadership position and commit myself to a continuous learning process. At the career level, I want to actively attain essential elements and characteristics that define a professional marketer. In this respect, the presentation of these SMART goals allows me to approach my pursuit of the four-year marketing program with purpose and conviction. Therefore, verbalizing my goals using the SMART system reflects well on my marketing philosophy of being the best that I can be in providing high-quality marketing services.
