Response to Hairspray film and musical versions
The latest version of Hairspray movie is ideally a comic story. If you have ever watched the two versions, you would realize some few differences, but the original themes regarding ideology, characters, and plot still take the same stand. Noticeably, in both versions portray and maintain the idea of gender and race, but the new version has more exaggerated stylistic devices in its presentation. On the contrary, some fans of the old movie would not give an applaud to the new version, but my opinion is that the new musical version is catchy and exciting because of the musical stage performance.
Of course, the adoption of a new version would attract some changes. However, the changes do not alter the original meaning of the film. Hairspray has been reproduced in different version and therefore, some differences emerge in the event of developing an updated version of the movie. Some of the differences noted, and discussed as follows:
One of the significant differences observed is that in the musical version Tracy is not arrested to jail. Contrary to this, in the previous film versions, Tracy was detained with others, the original movie and the 2007 film Tracy were detained with protesters. Similarly, the teens participating in Corny Collin`s Council were doubled from ten to twenty. Also, the editors removed the phrase of Motormouth Maybelle scene of rhythmic jive talks.
Besides, the Corny Collins show plays an important role in the play.

Wait! Hairspray paper is just an example!

The opening tag, “He`s Corny” automatically reveals the name of the show`s host and also characterizes its content. Therefore, in the campy show, the theme of racism and gender has been abandoned. The manuscript has been manipulated to make it more entertaining, but in reality, the overall message of the previous version has been weakened.
In the latest version, the stage version is a little bit different. Quite some characters have been dropped including Tammy Turner, Franklin von Tussle, and Arthur Hodgepile. As such, the Shady amusement park was replaced with The Corny Collins Show which where Velma was the supervisor for the station. All these contribute to the emergence of new subplots in the new version.
Also, Hairspray musical was restructured to allow the editors to fix more songs which could blend the plot of the play. In particular, ‘Timeless’ is featured in the newly introduced subplot involving Velma`s attempt to ruin and advocate for the separation of Tracy`s parents. The song conveys an apology from Wilber to Edna. On the other hand, the song, “I know where I`ve been” was sung by Maybelle immediately after getting out of prison in the old version, but in the new version, the song is performed on stage musical. The events integrate new scenes in the manuscript on the various versions.
Hollywood studios have applauded the efforts of adopting the new version of Hairspray. The film as unveiled the hidden teams and unearthed the author`s intention and vision of documenting the movie any other contemporary cinema; Hairspray is one of a kind particularly the visibility and authenticity. The scenes are organized chronologically, and the memorable scenes make the viewers expect more from one scene to the other. In my opinion, this film is worth to watch. The subject matter is prevalent throughout the movie, despite the changes that are underpinned to each version. The musical version speaks to us in a language that is precisely such that any brain can understand. Nonetheless, the morals and values are kept in the entire drafts. Therefore, it remains relevant even in the future.
