Communication in health and social care
Communication involves passing of information from the sender to the receiver. In some cases, the sender and the receiver are on a common point for instance, when communication is done oral between two groups of individuals. In the health and social care, good communication is important, and it determines the kind of treatment that will be given to the patient (BTEC’s resources 4).

Wait! Health and Social Care Revised paper is just an example!

The communication with the staff members requires a professional technique that results in a good environment for the professionals working in the organization.
Principles of effective communication
For communication to have much effect there should be a sender of the information, the receiver of that information, the communication channel and also the message to be passed (BTEC’s resources 1). The sender must have the message to pass and the channel to use for passing the information. On the other hand, there must be a common link or a connection channel to be used by both the sender and the receiver. The communication process, therefore, begins with the sender sending the message. The message is encoded by the sender before sending. It then goes through the communication channel and then it reaches the receiver. The receiver then decrypts the message and then responds back to the sender to show that the message has been received successfully.
Communication models and systems
Appropriate communication skills should be applied in the health and social care depending on the distance and mode of communication. For example, the use of nonverbal communication is mostly applied to those that are close to each other. The verbal communication can be applied by those who are far away by the use of telephone call as well as those who are close together. Written information such as memo is also an example of verbal communication, and it can be done through the application of technology and also using the manual methods (BTEC’s resources 8). The verbal communication is used by the nurses to make inquiries from the patient to get to know some of the problems that the patient is going through as well as to give the patient the time to explain him/herself. The verbal communication is used in the health and social setting to break the bad news to the staff members in the organization by a staff member or the management. The verbal communication is also used to deal with the problem or any form of complaints that are presented before the panel. And also it is used by the organization to hold a meeting where they discuss the matters concerning the progress of the organization.
There is also the use of formal communication and informal communication. Formal communication is applicable when there is an official duty or when communicating with the staff member of the health and social care concerning the treatment and the compilation of some important documents. Similarly, formal communication is also used in the organization when there is important information that is needed to be passed from the top management to the junior employees or whenever there I a meeting in the firm. Informal communication, on the other hand, is a casual communication that is made by the employees to each other (BTEC’s resources 3). They are normally used to pass the time and even when there is nothing official to be delivered concerning the work in the organization. Technology can as well be used to do the formal and informal communication. For instance, a formal communication can be sent to the stakeholders through an email concerning a meeting or changes that need to be done in the organization. Informal however can be done using the social platforms such as WhatsApp among the employees in the health and social care.
Visual communication is another way used to communicate in the health and social care. It can be done using word of mouth to those who are physically present in the area of communication. And also technology can be used to pass information visually especially through the use of video conferencing. The use of these technologies is very beneficial since they save time and money that could be used to travel a long distance to pass a simple message (BTEC’s resources 12). On the same note, most of the communications done electronically are conducted through the use of the new technology such as making a phone call and even sending an email.
1.3 Technology use in communication
Technology, however, is used in different ways in the health and social care to pass information. For example, whenever there is an inquiry that needs to be made about the presence of a given nurse or member of staff, a phone call is used. The patients can as well make phone calls to confirm their medication dates with the professionals in the health and social care.
1.4. Benefits of both informal and formal communication systems
The principles of effective communication include the sender of the message, receiver, message and the communication channel. For the message passed to have much impact, there needs to exist a mutual understanding between the sender and the receiver of the message (BTEC’s resources 2). For example, the sender and the receiver must have a similar communication medium. The barrier to communication can result when there is noise in the communication channel that is used. For example, when the network is weak, and one is communicating over the phone, there will be a communication barrier. Similarly, when two people are communicating through word of mouth in a noisy environment or when the sender and receiver do not use a common language for communication, then a communication barrier will be realized.
Oral communication
This is a conversation between a client (distressed next of kin) and me a managing director in charge of the nurses and management of Tula healthcare. The client is a middle age woman of around 32 years. (She knocks the managing director office’s door).
Me: Yes come in madam. (She gets into the office). Welcome. Have a seat.
Client: Thank you. Good morning. (As we shake hand to each other as she gets to her seat).
Me: Good morning to you, how may I be of help to you?
Client: Nurse I have been here on several occasion trying to get information that I was promised some two months ago about my deceased husband, but everything has been in vain.
Me: I can remember I saw you last week with the secretary. What was the issue all about?
Client: My husband died out of car accident that knocked him down as he was walking along the California street, and I was promised that justice would be done about it but up to now, two months down the line I have not received a tangible information and documents that can help me to seek justice as well as to claim his properties.
Me: Did the previous manager open any file concerning your case?
Client: Yes he did. He used my husband’s name, “John Jackson”. (As I check the name of the available files on the computer, the client fidgets showing some form of restlessness and anxiety).
Me: I have got it, and the information from the police is with us, and it had already been shared into your email five days ago. Concerning the claiming of the properties, may I know if your husband wrote a will concerning how the properties should be divided?
Client: My husband wrote a will five years ago, and it was given to her mother. But so far there are several changes that had taken place even though he didn’t update the will after the changes.
Me: Which changes have occurred since then?
Client: Some of the changes that have occurred since he wrote the will are the birth of my last born child that occurred two years later after the will. And also the mother, as well as some people who were included in the, will have already died.
Me: So long as you have the will around all other issues will be sorted out. Meanwhile, you can proceed with the document that was sent to you to seek justice as I process for you the medical information about the deceased. I will forward to you the final health report through your e-mail account before the day ends. Sorry for the delay of the information for that long period and I am happy that you have been keeping in touch with us.
Client: (As she smiles with the face showing gratitude and satisfaction). Am very gland and thank you so much for your time. (We shake hands as she gets out of the office.)
According to the conversation between the two individuals (client and the nurse), there is turn-taking, and the two pays attention keenly to one another. The nurse also tries by all means to solve the problem of the patient, for instance, the client comes when tensed as she enters the nurse’s office while she leaves with a smile on her face showing that her problem is solved. The smile indicates that she is relieved.
