I am not a monster
Kelly Ellard could rock and weep in the witness box under cross-examination by the juries on the charges that she killed her friend Reena Virk. It is at this time that she gets angry and tells the judge that” she is not a monster”. The case gets to a tense moment between the attorney Catherine Murray and the accused, but this does not prevent the prosecutors’ questions regarding the incident that led to the death of Ellard’s schoolmate. Reena Virk was beaten up and drowned under a Victoria bridge. Ellard admits to being a participant in the first attack on Virk when a gang of her classmates lured the girl under Victoria’s Craigflower Bridge and then beating her ruthlessly leaving Reena dazed and bleeding profusely in the mud.
During my primary school days at the 6th grade, some boys lured me to beating one of our classmates who was the class prefect. We did this without a second thought, the main reason for our rage was the fact that he had made the teacher punish us for not completing assignments on time, forgetting that he was obliged to do that and was part of his duties. The next day we were reported to the school authority and suspended for two weeks. Had we changed our opinion on the class prefect we would not have been punished.
George Brown and James Craig were fans of the English Premier League, supporting two rival teams and could end up in fierce grudge at the end of the match especially when one of the team loses, despite being good friends they could regularly fight in clubs.

One afternoon at Jamesville club while watching a fierce derby between their favourite teams that George brown’s best team was ruthless beaten by that being supported by James Craig. Full of humour and joy James Craig shouted “heroes, not easily challenged by smaller teams” it is at this time that George Brown took a bottle and struck James leaving him unconscious only to regret later. This could be prevented both friends avoided going to watch a rival match at the same club knowing that being a fan is highly emotive or if they gave their friendship the priority and changed their perspective regarding games, and understand that during a game you challenge each other and not merely infighting.
A monster is a fascinating creature usually found in horror fiction that may produce physical harm and produce fear by its appearance (Schopenhauer $ Paul, 2005). Ellard rejects being a monster but admits she was just but an active participant in a first attack on Reena when a gang of classmates lured him to do so. She claims that she never intended to kill Reena and the death was a result of a group that partially incited her into joining and discipline her. Ellard never thought that her action could end up with disastrous results; neither did she believe that her action would lead to the death of Reena. In literature, we find different types of monsters that include; classic monsters spawning from fictional stories, strange monsters, double monsters that are individuals or wholly double but joined and the unequal double monsters that consist of two parts.
Relating a criminal act to a monster is not accurate because one remains innocent until proven guilty. A monster aims at killing and impacting physical harm upon somebody while a criminal may not have such intentions as long as they achieve their criminal goals. Another person need not fail for another to succeed instead dialogue should be greatly embraced in solving problems and both can succeed together. Independent thinking and taking a second thought should be embraced in our schools and lives to eradicating dangerous power dynamics that leads to devastating outcomes if Ellard could have adopted a second thought she would not have participated in beating up Reena.
Schopenhauer argues that to feel envy is human therefore people find pleasure in the pain of others. This conflict indicates the presence of a comparative and sometimes even a competitive concern amongst people, therefore, to develop empathy we must embrace the aspect of caring for each other, accepting the reality that conflicts arises and needs wise decision in solving them while retaining peace and friendship.
