Improving Airline Security
The recent wave of terror attacks and drug trafficking in most parts of the world have drawn the attention of the world and has necessitated the need to improve airline security. The airport security systems in use today were designed during the late 1970s, and most of them remain relatively unchanged till date (Harris 17). The 9/11 attack prompted the world to change their perception from the traditional approach of screening passengers and checking their luggage for any metallic objects. Available resources should be harnessed towards ensuring that the airport security systems are more flexible and smarter.
Behavioral profiling can be potential intervention towards addressing some of the security threats eminent in airports. The authority mandated with the role of securing the airport should employ the latest technology to profile passengers using data collected from various screening points (DeSimone et al. 11). Airport security officers should evaluate a passenger’s travel history, flight time, the purpose of traveling, the type of payment used and the travel companions. Data should be collected from each airport and then used to evaluate the threat posed by individual passengers (Pugliese III 6). However, this will call for the implementation of a global one-stop one-stamp approach where the passenger’s travel history becomes an integrated source of information and intelligence.
Designers of the airport security system must take into consideration human factors that may jeopardize security both at the airport or even in the plane.

Numerous researches have been conducted regarding how to improve passenger screening and clearance at the terminal building. Although there is no precise approach which can warrant uptight security at airports, some interventions can be deployed to identify patterns of behavior (Tropp 7). Security should start from the point the passengers drive into the airport rather than focusing on screening at the terminal building (Yoo 137). Security officers dressed in plain clothes should patrol the airport with body surveillance cameras to detect any security threat within the environs of the airport (Harris 20). Airport employees ought to be trained in how to identify security threats. Highly trained security experts should be hired to use integrated technologies in gathering information that may point out a security breach or threat (Ron 9).
