In Praise of the F word
In the article, “in praise of the ‘F’ word,” Sherry, faults the teachers and the education system. Students are passed from one grade to the next along the educational system and rarely do students master the content. This is unfair to the students and the job market they are being prepared for. She points out how the style of teaching alone not being enough to effectively capture the attention of students and encourages the use of the failure threat to ensure students are drawn to schoolwork. The school system, using excuses such as inadequate resources and budgeting allows students who are under qualified to pass. Overworked and underpaid teachers lack the motivation to prepare students enough for the professional world. I think that the Today’s educators must be projected to provide educational experiences that uphold the development of the student and be accountable for guiding their scholars to skillfulness and understanding of the academic undertakings and cognitive content integrated into state principles.
I think Sherry refers to flunking as the ‘F’ word as a strategically used tactic. She deliberately misleads the reader by associating flunking to a bad thing, a profanity. I think that although she associates flunking to a profanity, she cites the importance of teachers and parents using the flunking threat as positive motivation. Giving an example of his son who did little for his intellectual development, Sherry shows that ultimately, there is some good in making good on the threat of the failure to encourage students to work harder instead of allowing them of passing them.

The author refers to herself as a “do-gooder,” implying that she is well-meaning, even though she can be misinterpreted in this case as she is unrealistic by suggesting that teachers should flank students. Alternatively, she could describe herself as an altruist. In paragraph 10, Mary points out that, she supports flunking. However, much time passes by, how many generations pass by; flunking remains an effective teaching technique (Sherry 1). I think that students, regardless of the things they go through at home, teachers should not be so compassionate and lenient to pass them, and instead, teachers should employ this technique to help students realize their maximum potential in school. I also think that educators must monitor and manage the students’ understanding and aptness of coursework. Besides, an educator must engage the parents by letting them know the negative and positive behaviors of the child in class and at school for improvements.
To a greater extent, I feel cheated by our educational system. Students have different capabilities and talents. Different students should be handled differently when it comes to the method of teaching the school employs. For example, Sherry points out that there are many ways of capturing the attention of students in a class. One teaching method cannot adequately meet the needs of all students in a class. Other students need motivation; others require the threat of flunking and so forth. Teachers should pay specific attention and help the students to tackle their challenges head-on regardless of the difficulties a student faces from home. This will create room for creativity and
