Excelsior Online Writing
Excelsior College provides a wide range of tools to assist students in developing great academic essays. The first thing which overwhelmed me was the detailed exploration of ‘The Writing process.’ Although I knew how to write essays from my previous academic ventures, the system brought about some extensive insights on to scan through essay topics and determined which was suitable. In fact, the section on writing process provides clues on developing strong thesis statements and strong paragraphs. Let me elaborate on that last statement: I knew about writing a thesis to reflect on the entire essay, but I did not know about topic sentences. Topic sentences are those sentences which are the first on paragraphs and summarize the whole paragraph. Additionally, the “free writing tutoring through smart thinking” CITATION Exc18 l 1033 (Excelsior College Library, 2018) exposes the mechanical and poetic elements of a college essay. This section proved effective in understanding the role of transition words and sentence in any essay.
Additionally, there are other skills such as research, citation, avoidance of plagiarism, and rhetorical styles which were helpful. In so doing, the research section aids in determining the best sources to use while the citation deals with formatting and documentation of essays. On top of this, I learned about plagiarism and how to develop an original paper with minimal effort.

The last section which was new and intriguing was the rhetorical styles. This portion offers advice on narration types and developing a different type of essays CITATION Exc181 l 1033 (Excelsior Online Writing Lab (OWL), 2018). Apart from the guides provided on the website, I have friends who can indulge my understanding of academic assignments through discussions and offer second opinions on my work.
